The famous ticket history

i want to start a thread for all the people and their ticket history and police history. i thought it would be pretty fun.

i've had my mini for about two months and have managed to get a speeding ticket coming back from the beach on sunday 5/25.

the "specs"

87mph (after slowing down) in a 55mph

safety corridor

grand total- $700.

by the way i'm 18. insurance is skyrocketing. yay

Such talk is generally discouraged around these parts, but in the spirit of this thread I got pulled over May 7 for not driving aggressively enough in a school zone. Told to be more assertive and let go after an ID check.

got up to 100mph in a 55 zone in my old buick century once, but since no one else was on the road, and the officer thought it was sorta funny, he just gave me a warning for ignoring highway signs...
i know it was stupid, and i havent done anything like that since

In an area that is known for cops just itching to pull you over for anything such as you'd better STOP for a full three at the stop signs itching...

No really, 25 limit all over town (small) I had a cop tailing me practically sniffing the exhaust baiting me to go over 25. Just stuck it at 24 and he finally gave up.

Anyway, 40 zone, lady in front doing 30-33 and weaving, looking for an address? or on the phone or something...

So we're slightly late for rehearsal (I'm tech, wife is performing) and she says, pass 'em, pass 'em!

Legal passing zone (finally) and I hit it... drop it to 2nd and go, get back in my lane.... just as a cop is coming down the road the other way.

Oh @#@#$%, that was a cop...

I resume my 40 mph exactly and sure enough there's brake lights. Hmm, maybe he's slowing down due to the hill he's been coming down...

40...

40...

40...

No lights...

40...

Damn.

Still proceeding at 40 he comes up on me in not too much of a hurry. I pull over to let him pass... (please oh please oh please)

Nope. He wants me.

Wife: "I am SO sorry."

Papers ready, he says he clocked me at 56. Goes back to the patrol car. Comes back not too long.

No ticket! Says speed is 40, keep it there.

"Yes sir, just trying to pass the person doing 30"

Simple physics maintains that in order to pass an object moving at X, overtake speed within distance Y must be > R. I wasn't about to break out my whiteboard, just happy to not have paperwork.

No past tickets or anything pays off I guess.

My last speeding ticket was in 1997, got stopped for doing 27 in a school zone. I was in my work truck and speedometer was below 25. The fine was $110.00!! Makes you want to crush a grape!!! I've been driving a MINI since 2004 and no tickets.

Speeding violations:

1981 - KS
1983 - PA
1986 - KY
1987 - OH
1997 - Germany
1998 - NM
2002 - MD
2006 - MD

A few warnings, one in Oklahoma for going... ummmm.... never mind.... you wouldn't believe me. Very nice police officer.

Never been canceled by an insurance company because I've spaced them out enough and I have only one at-fault accident.

When i was driving my ford bronco equipped with firestones 7yrs ago. One of the tires popped and i hit a curb. Some lady walking her dog called the police and said i got into a huge accident. I was about a mile away from my house so i decided just to drive it home and change the tire there. Before i got home i was stopped by three cops and arrested for:
Leaving the scene of an accident
Failure to make a police report
careless driving
driving an unsafe vehicle(I drove a mile on a flat tire)
And failure to get vehicle inpected because it was two days passed.
It was alot of money and so was the lawyer. It sucked big time. All for hitting a curb!!!!!! The only damage on my truck was the tire.

I've had a few, including 10 in Germany . . . and - not for speeding - but my favorite was a noise violation while designated driver with 2 very drunk guys in the car driving home with windows/sunroof open blasting "Panama" as high as that BOSE stereo would allow (not in a MINI . . . that was 11 years ago).

Last ticket was on the way back from AMVIV 06 was in I-10 in West Texas where the only thing to hit is Wile E. Coyote and his Acme (tm) brand anvil. Speed limit is 80mph out there. Got nailed for 89.

Had a 1st Gen GTI when I was a bit younger, that car got me in all kinds of trouble. A few hearings with the MD DMV as to why I should be allowed to keep my license. Then moved to CA, on the way I picked up a few different Drivers Licenses, CO, AZ, NV, CA and had the MD as well. After seeing the same judge more times then I care to remember for antics on the Pines to Palms Scenic Byway (Hwy 74) out of Palm Desert I was given the option of 90 days or go back from whenst I came. Needless to say I moved back to MD toot sweet.

Anyone ever use a traffic lawyer?

92 in a 70 on I-5 north in Cali. Kern Co. website says anything up to 25 over limit is traffic school. No points on record, pay fine, great.
Nice lady at the desk says "Judges here in the south county don't go by that!!!!, over 90 no traffic school."
Great, I'm thinking the lawyer fees, if they can get it knocked down to 89, or thrown out all together, are cheaper than the insurance hike in the long run.

Anyone?

I got pulled over for crossing a solid white line. I was asked if I knew why I was pulled over. I said "Yes, because I crossed the solid white line. I know I shouldn't have and I know being impatient and trying to get around traffic is a lame and stupid excuse. I'm an idiot". I was given a verbal warning.

I was pulling onto the highway. I checked the mirrors, saw nothing, got on it pretty hard, started gaining on the car in front of me rapidly, checked the mirror again, saw nothing and went to move into the left lane and pass. As I began to pass I suddenly saw a car right next to me ...a trooper. I quickly slowed down. He got behind me and pulled me over. He asked if I knew why he pulled me over. I said "Yes, I was going way too fast and almost made an unsafe lane change." He then asked if there was any reason I would do that. "Sheer stupidity" I said. I was given a verbal warning.

Fessing up has always worked for me ...except for once ...

I got nailed for doing 27 in a 25 zone. When asked why I thought I was pulled over I said it was because of the blistering speed. I then quipped that he might want to call for back up because anyone that would go 2 MPH over the limit is clearly derelict.

That time I talked myself into the ticket.

Dean.

I just got my license back last year lets just start with that...

-6 tickets 5 cars 1 stop moveable suspesion, no seatbelt, brake lamp out, speeding, window tint, non dot approved lights (they were blue) - 91 lincoln town car w/ hydraulics. surprisingly all were dropped

- Screetching tires and speeding - 88 Mustang GT (it was a nice burnout)

- 91 in 65 and 94 in a 65 both after slowing down - 91 Integra LS w/ fully built turbo motor

knock on wood luckily no tickets in the Mini since I bought it when I got my license back last year but man that was a tough year. I learned my lesson though. And if you want to talk about high insurance try $230/month and that was a cheapest place I could find.

Interestingly enough, the fastest car I owned was a 1975 Datsun 280Z, and I never got stopped in that. I assume it was fast anyway... the speedometer didn't work very well.

i have to many to list, but i dont know about everywhere else, but if a cop in oklahoma pulls you over for speeding, you have the right to ask to see the radar reading, and see the lastime it was calibrated for moving , and stopped, if he doesnt show that to you, you can take that to court and get everything dismissed

On our honeymoon driving back to Seattle. Way out in Wyoming barely coming into town. Tagged for 72 in a 65.

"We've got a lot of wildlife out here. Wouldn't want anything bad to happen to you."

Uh yeah, 'cause hitting a moose at 65 is safe, but 7mph more is fatal. Riiiight.

Saw the out of state plates, knew we weren't able to fight it. Easy money.

Yeah, I got a similar ticket in Kentucky. The police officer first didn't like the fact that I had PA plates and an Arkansas driver's license. Even after I showed him my military ID, he didn't like it. After he accepted that, he then says, "you know, if you don't slow down, you could spend a night in one of our fine Kentucky jails".

My speeding ticket was for doing 61 in a 55. Jail... yeah, sure.
