OK, I really did it to myself today. Met my friend for lunch and he let me drive his new DS/B MCS. OH MY GOD, I am in love!! I've read about how they handle like go-karts and I thought people were exaggerating. It was so incredible. Even the clutch was very user-friendly. I tend to take a while to adjust to a new clutch but I hopped right in and drove away with no problems.

I'm even more jealous of the rest of you now that I've driven one.

The Passat's coolant flushing is almost completed so it should be ready to sell by early next week. I'm praying someone buys it quickly.

Best thing is - the coolant in a MINI can be flushed in under an hour! Don't know how. Something about it being so small, I think. Who cares, as long as you don't have to spend weeks flushing the coolant like on those old Volkswagens.

Who says being stoopid isn't fun?!

My stupid act lately was trying to rent a MINI Cooper for an SCMM event (driving along PCH) this weekend. I made a reservation but (un)fortunately a car was not available for the time slot I wanted. Whew! That was a close one.

What a fine ailment to be afflicted with!!!!

You may be able to sell your VW quickly, but how fast can you get an MC(S)? Think about that before selling what you've got right away.

I don't know about the name of this thread-
"Call me stupid, again"- The stupid part refers to being tempted by driving a very well engineered MCS and the again part refers to being tempted more than once.
This doesn't sound stupid to me, it sounds like fun. Now if it creates trouble in that it makes your decision about what to do harder then that is OK. Maybe it is a hard decision- that's still not stupid.
Now if the MCS is a good choice for you (even if it doesn't have tons of extra space), then not driving the MCS enough to get a good feel for it would be "stupid" because it is afterall a great car.

I use my MCS as a daily driver commuter car and I do take up to 3 passengers for short rides less than 50 minutes. I generally have enough room for things and I am happy with the hatchback design. I do my shopping at costco and still have room for things I buy. Not bad considering how much I buy at costco.

If you need more space to haul stuff then:
Find a friend with a truck or old van.
Rent a truck if needed.
Get home depot or other store to drop off your order at your house- this service does exist in my area. Good to know.
Get an old pick up or van for dirty stuff and hauling purposes if needed.

I agree. Before putting up the VW for sale check and make sure about the waiting list at your local MINI dealer if you want to order your new MCS "A la carte". I would not be surprised if waiting lists for the S are still in the 5 to 6 month range (I have been waiting 10 months for my MCS but I have been able to cope as we already have a wonderful Cooper CVT

If you have already eyed a "Pre-spec" car, then selling the VW should become your top priority.

Also consider giving the old VW Passat a nice wash, wax and detail job. Even if you spend $100 paying soemone to do it, a freshly waxed car is more attractive to the eye of a prospective buyer and might even better your chances of getting a few more $$$ for it. Have all maintenance and repair records on a neat folder. People love to see those things and sometimes they won't even bother to go over the car's service history if they see a folder in your hand as they will trust whatever you say to them about the car.

Trust me, I just sold a 2 year old 2001 Chevy Impala LS last month to make room for my '04 MCS. It was an easy 20 minute sale!

Not worried about that. I've still got another car to drive when the Passat is gone.

The car was recently polished and waxed before we started working on it so a good washing and a bit of detailing should do it. And I've got all the repair records and receipts hanging on a clipboard in the garage. I'm not worried about being able to sell the car. It's in great shape. But thanks for the advice!
