I just wanted to post and say that July 26, 2008 is the absolute, set-in-stone date for the GWR 500 2008! I will post more details as soon as I get them!

Kinda like June 8th was. No, wait that was supposed to be June 14th. Well maybe. But then the 26th is MTTS...... Well, the moving around has left us out. Good luck with the project. Maybe next time.

But is the goal still 500? But I just heard the new GWR was recently set at something over 800. Edit: I just tried to find where I read that, and can't verify it. But I'm positive I saw it someplace. Will keep looking.

mysticturner,

I'm not sure what the issues with the date were before, I just started helping with this event about a week ago. I'm sorry to hear that you won't be able to make it. I've read where some folks need a huge lead time when they request vacation time from work. Believe me I know all about that.

If you do find a link to the GWR being set at over 800 please do post the link. I will be thrilled if we get to 500 Minis/MINIs! I seriously doubt that anyone else will ever break our record from last year, or this year, because we had "the most Minis/MINIs in a parade for the benefit of a charity" or something to that effect. If they do beat it and contribute to a charity it's still a great thing because a charity is benefiting from it.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but here you go:

Longest line of Minis ever - Expatica

Also:

Most of them are classic Minis, but there are a few MINIs in there as well.

I'm not trying to be a buzz-killer, and just like last year, I'll still attend if the organizers want to try anyway, but it seems a bit of a tall hurdle to overtake!

It doesn't say anywhere on that website that it's an official Guinness World Record. Still it was quite impressive.

I'm not 100% sure (I'm not a Classic Mini expert either), but I think that light blue one you are referring to is in the same family. It might even be a "rare" Mini model... I'm not sure. Hopefully someone who knows about these things can confirm!

Another interesting video from the same event, posted a very short time ago to YouTube by someone by the name of "RB" in the MotoringFile comments:

Isn't there a way to contact GWR and figure out what the current MINI-related records are, that way we know what we're aiming for?

I'm hoping to be able to attend but am still working out the details! =) I cant wait though!

That is actually on my to-do list Luck219. Now, if I could get off of work before their business hours end so I can call them I'll be happy! We look forward to having you there!

It's usually difficult for me to be home during business hours to make these types of calls too - but if i can help, let me know. I'm sure we'll be able to give them the GWR id number that was provided on the Se7en Cities site for them to give us info, right?

Until I find out different, we (the USA) hold the record at 273 Minis/MINIS and that was set in June of 2007 here in Virginia Beach. I don't know if Guinness will give us official info regarding the Dutch "record" or not. :( Our claim number might help to prod them into answering the question though. Good idea!
