R50/53 If you could do it again would you...
We've done it several times, and they're starting to look very similar.
They've all had DSC, Auto A/C and rear fog lights. We found the universal garage door opener to be quite useful, so we're ordering it even thought it costs quite a bit now it has to come with the auto-dimming rear view mirror. I'm not entirely convinced about the auto-dimming mirror. We've also started ordering the half leather/haf cloth seats, I find they're the most comfortable.
The main thing about wheels I look for now is a simpler design so they're easier to clean. Most of them have had white wheels which show brake dust like crazy, and the webspokes have lots and lots of little nooks to hide the dust.
I would have said an iPod adapter was essential until we got the 07. The 05 works fine (once they updated it), the 07 is just annoying. We wouldn't have got the one in the 08 if it hadn't come with the bluetooth (and no centre armrest) option, it does look to be different from the 07 though. Just the aux-in on the 07 (and the aux-in option on the 04 which predated the adapter) works fine though.

The 16's give a bit softer ride so that was a plus for me with my current MINI.
I second the advice on skipping the NAV system.
Heated seats are a good idea if you live in a colder climate or are getting the Cabrio.
I like the idea of the sun roof but summers are just too hot for it here when parked outside.
Tinted windows are great. I will eventually get this done in my 06.
I could live without the Auto A/C.
I'd go with the fabric seats over the vinyl. Much cooler in the summer too.
I kept my MINI pretty simple. More bells and whistles more things to fix and maintain.
Oh, I'd spring more dollars for the darker wheels. They really hide the dirt nicely.
I'd do the invisiashield next time too.

We've not been sorry with any of the choices we have made with any of our MINIs. We ordered them all and ordered exactly what we wanted - no regrets here...

Though I bought mine used, (10K miles, almost perfect condition) I changed the 16's to the 17's.
I have no regrets about doing that either. I'd do it again. A friend of mine in here just ordered a clubman and he ordered it with 17's. He's contemplating puttting 18's on it. Personally, I don't think it's a good idea, the ride quality did change from 16's to 17's but so neglible, I don't mind. I think 18's would be pushing the envelope.
I'm afraid when it's said and done, he'll like the looks of the 18's but will wish he had the ride of the 16 or 17's.

We were at Discount Tire on Saturday - trying to decide on some new shoes for the Clubman. We inquired about 18". The gentleman that helped us - same guy who has helped us out in the past, said that the ride is very harsh - same as what we have now with the 17" runflats - which is what we are trying to get away from.

I have 17s and they are fine. I run 15s in the winter and prefer the rough and tumble ride of the 17s. I prefer the way they look too. I have no experience with 16s, so I can't help there.
The one thing I would change if I could is the sunroof. I wish I did not have it ...totally useless, except for overheating the car in the summer.

I have had the 17" R98 Webspokes and I upgraded to 18" Volk GT-N but I really did like the 17" Webspokes, I didn't regret anything that was ordered with the car, maybe a few extras would be nice, but I am really satisfied with how it came out!
Only regret would have been to get the 16s, rather than the stock 15 tires. Not so much for the ride, but spares would be easlier to find. I would prefer to carry a REAL spare, and I have to order the 15s. (but havent done the research to find out if the 16s are easier to find).
The only thing I wish I had is the auto dim rear view mirror but it was not available a la carte when I purchased so it was not an option since I didn't want the other carp in the package
1. I would not have gotten DSC (I always turn it off).
2. I also would not have gotten a metallic paint. Reason being that the finish is always going to deteriorate. You clean it, then a bird poops on it and leaves a stain, or it gets scratched or stone chips happen or .. Also, non-metallic paint is easier to touch up. I got dark silver and would have been just as happy with pepper white.
So if I remember pricing correctly, leaving off those 2 options would have saved me $1000. Oh well. I don't regret what I got, but for next time I'll keep this in mind.

I bought mine used and the only thing I wish it didn't have was the sunroof. I have never been a fan of built in roof leaks.
I did swap the 17's for 16's. The roads in Colorado are just to rough for for 17's IMHO.
