I'm hearing alot about the early automatic trannys in the Minis' and it almost seems like one should expect it to take a crap at some pont in ownership. I guess they are so bad BMW quit making them in newer models. Mechanics replace the whole unit rather than try and fix them to the tune of $7-8000??? For a tansmission? Good God.....I have to say that doesn't sit well with this new owner one bit. The Carfax doesn't show it happened yet, so I guess I just hope it doesn't happen on my way to our vacation spot. I can't believe it's that bad and the odds are not going to be in my favor....so let's hear all the good reassuring "awwww, don't buy that suff" from all you Mini Lovers......

 

Hmmmmmm.....nothing yet? Doesn't look good for the CVT.....

 

They do not all fail. I have 90,000+ miles on my 2004 CVT with no problems and no signs of problems. I have the transmission FLUSHED every 30K miles. It may fail me next week, but so far no problems at all.

 

The CVT failure issue seems to be way overblown. Lots of opinions and no facts. My 06 cvt has 64,000trouble free miles. The Mini2 site has a thread about long lasting CVT's. Check it out.

 

minipooper is talking about an 02....not an 04 or 06! Big difference.

 

I have an 03 and the CVT failed suddenly yesterday with 85K on the car

but my dealer came thru and I am only paying labor aprrox $1485 for a replacement CVT (new) MINIUSA came thru as well did Hassel Mini in Freeport!!!

 

Hey Rob, it prolly didn't have anything to do with the autocross you did on saturday j/k I had NOTHING to do with that..

But seriously, it actually gave out?? I'm sorry to hear that, but glad that it isn't gonna cost 7k

 

me autocross??? nahhhh besides i just drove around the track...

but yeah i got sick during the rain on sunday... was coughing sunday nite and most of monday.. sue came home @ 4 and drove me to the doc in freeport.. just as we turned off Sunrise onto ocean ave.. it bucked and hesitated a little.. as we drove into the parking lot (the doc is across from freeport village hall).. I drove out or tried too.. the car rolled to a stop on the street..
just like that!!!

hey. at least John from hassel got me a ride home... I suggested the other John (a bmw technician) to go via Ocean .. no traffic and scenic.. (and we live right off the end of the Robert Moses by S State).. so that was 24 miles additional
