Speedo off.

Is there a way I can keep my speedo accurate if I were to get 17's on my 07 MCS? I would really not like it if my speed was off. Any recommendations on what I should get? And stock 17's are 17x7 with 205/45/17, if I were to get the same size rim and tire as stock 17's will that still affect it?

Yes, stock sized wheels and tires will give you no speed error.

205/45-17 tire

17x7 rim 4x100 bolt pattern +42 to +48 mm wheel offset for any stock MINI 17" rim from any year MINI 2002-2008.

I can't tell from the original post, but it sounds like 17s didn't come stock on your car. If that's the case, just take it to a shop and have the speedometer calibrated. I had to do that to get out of a speeding ticket a couple years ago. It was $50 and 15 minutes of work.

Hehe, my lawyer actually recommended a shop (in North Carolina). If it helps to point you in the right direction, the place I went specialized in alignments.

Good luck.

The stock tire O.D. is approximately 24.5". This varies a little with different wheels and tires on the R56, but not enough to have much effect on your speedometer.

When looking for tires, check out the specs for different tires at TireRack.com. In general, 205/45-17 will be within a few % of your 195/55-16 tires.

That said, your speedometer with stock wheels/tires is probably off (optimistic) by 5-10%. Most cars are like that so they never read less than actual speed.

235/40 sounds a little wide...

http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp

Anything within about 3.0% of the original diameter should be fine.

205/45-17 is 0.7% too small and 215/45-17 is 0.7% too big, but they're 8" and 8.5" wide, respectively, and they will fit.

235/40-17 is 0.2% too small but it's 9.25" wide, compared to 7.7" stock. I'm pretty sure 235 section width will not fit on a MINI without some additional mods.

As minihune stated above, go with the 205/45-17 and you'll be fine.

ok, so 205/45/17 with a 17x7 rim with an +42-+48 offset? Will a +40 offset be ok also? Thanks for the quick replies, im getting my rims today.
