overheating possibly bad hose

my wife called me and said teh the car almost overheated on her way back from lunch at work. also said that it drove fine, but smelled like burning antifreeze. have not looked at it yet. but anyway i have a tow dolly, and wondered if it is okay to tow the car with the rear wheels on the ground, and if there is a special way to do this. also is there a certain place i may want to look for the leak? like an area that is prone to it. it is 04 S with like 5x,xxx miles on it.

also is there anything special about the coolant?

There is another thread about coolant leaks, maybe you can find your answer there. I think it is OK to dolly your car that way if it is a standard transmission. Just put the car in nuetral. Automatics...I'm not sure, I think as long as the drive wheels are the ones on the dolly...and then there is something about keeping the speed and distance down, as the bands in the transmissions get wound up too tight...maybe someone with more auto tranny experience can enlighten further? Anyway...here is the link to the other thread...

thank you very much for your help, but the thing i thought was the prob is not. it is either simpler or much worse.

the fuse for the cooling fan is blown. i swapped it for another and it blew too. i have to get a few more of them, but they are expensive, like $3 per fuse. 50amp.

anyway i can't find the plug for teh fan, i was hoping that someone could chime in and let me know where it is. also is there only one fan?
i want to unplug the fan and see if the fuse still blows. any help will be greatly appreciated.

Many threads on this. The fan is probably pooched. Check 'power steering' and/or 'power steering fan' in your searches. It's ok to dolly tow the mini, the front wheels are off the ground, and the back wheels have no connection with the transmission, auto or otherwise. Just make sure the emergency brake is off.

found this in one of teh other threads:

"Do you know where the connector is for the fan?? Its right behind the hood release (where you lift the hood from the front) "

so i am going to unplug it and see if the fuse still blows. if it does not, then i should be looking for a fan. if it does then something else is wrong. right? also there are 2 relays that basically are labelled *I and *II i asume that these are fan stage 1 and fan stage 2 as in it is a 2 speed fan? is it possible that one or both of these need replacing?

BTW this is the rad fan that is bad, not the pwr steering fan.
