Car Nut, R56 Owner

i just enjoy driving my 2008 mcs. i am 56 years old and have owned many cars. in 1978 at the old age of 26, i bought a dino 246gt. awesome stuff in that era. i, later, bought a 250gt berlinetta lusso, red with black leather. i sold these cars( who knows, maybe they could be worth more money), but i just bought them and drove them for the thrill. in the eighties, i owned "911"s" and autocrossed them. i actually came in second in my class in the porsche parade in monterey in the early nineties. in addition, i have driven different several driving schools( bondurant at sears point and russell at laguna). at my mellow age, i just really appreciate my mini. if i want to have to have fun, i just push the sport button. my mcs is a turbo, and double-clutch downshifting is much easier in sport mode. the tranny is the best that i have ever experienced.
this is coming from someone who had a '64 corvette with a hurst 4-speed. my other currnt cars are a 2005 audi s4 auto sedan and and a 2005 audi 3.0 quatto, avant, ultrasport
sincerely, don

Coincidently I'm 26 right now & I love it as much as it was a Ferrari.

This is my Ferrari...FWD, British made, rather tall, and with the wrong emblems all over it but I say it is.

dpcompt,

Do I know you from Pete's or 6speed? Your Dino story sounds familiar...

I agree...MINI is great fun. Fell in love with the MINI in late 60s when my cousin bought a very early Cooper S. When the car came back to the US , it was a given that I had to have one.

I had a 308GTB for 24 years..Ferraris are very special and so are MINIS..My MCS (jcw) shares the garage witha a 997 C2s so I am in auto heaven. Wife has A-6 2.7T. I am your age bracket and the 246 DINO is one of my favorites as is the Daytona and 250SWB.
Real car guys are not hampered by their age. Get behind the wheel and we are just as excited as we were when we turned 16.

Enjoy the ride.

I'm just a bit older than dpcompt, but our stories are so similar! I also had a Dino in the 70's and I loved that car - drove it everyday, even in the snow!

My first Mini was a 62 Cooper S with the 1100 engine. I recently found some old pics of it and posted them here http://https://www.northamericanmoto...d.php?t=135819

I also went on to Porsches but I never did any autocrossing, my track time was all on road courses, and very little of that.

I really enjoy my 2003 MCS JCW, in fact I was thinking this am on the drive in to work, why would anyone need something more than this for the work commute and in fact almost all of your driving needs?

I currently own an Audi allroad with the twin turbo 2.7 V-6.......along with my 69 XK-E

I agree with the above posts. I have owned an Acura NXS (traded that in for my 1st Mini), a Bosxter S, a 911 Carrera S (traded that in for my current Mini), an RX-7 Twin Turbo, and a few other cars. I enjoy my Mini as much as all of those, just not as quickly!

At the ripe age of 31, haha I have had the pleasure/luck of owning several vehicles, 350z, STI(335 whp), Evo 9 to name a few (not bragging) and now week old MCS. I took her out this weekend and would have to say I like it as much if not more than my previous rides

Awesome little car

Jason
