I thought I liked the checkered aluminum...

When I went to order my MCS, I thought I would be very happy with the checkered aluminum, but now I feel a little disenchanted with it. The question is can I put the piano black trim on aftermarket (without going through the stealership, of course.) and if so, how much would it cost? I like the aluminum, but I think the piano black is a little more upscale. Thank you in advance for the help.

The dash is quite easy to swap out as far as I'm aware but the elliptical door rings are another matter altogether unfortunately.

there are plenty of people who do refininshing of interiors, boats, planes, cars. They would be able to take it off, refinish it, and reinstall it again. Look in the yellow pages under the automotive section (i think)

You can find the part numbers on RealOEM.com then get prices from Classic Auto Campus (a NAM vendor), Morristown, or Pelican Parts.

The door parts are here: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partgrp.d...31&hg=51&fg=50

Dash are here:
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partgrp.d...31&hg=51&fg=30

Click on a picture and it will give you a larger diagram and a list of part numbers.

The dash planels pull off (try not to break them).

Looks like the door rings are available separately, but they seem to be attached to the door panel by melting plastic tabs. So, removing and replacing will be less straight forward than the dash.

Thank you very much Robin and others. This looks like it's going to be pretty pricey. I may have to learn to love the checkered aluminum. But who knows, maybe one day I will go a little crazy and do this.

Something like this might be worth considering.

my friend just got one with piano black inside. she already scratched it within a month and says it shows fingerprints easily. especially on the hidden compartment (which is bad when it comes to theft deterrent). now she wishes she had gone with the checkered or aluminum instead.

I was going to go with the black, but I recently bought a laptop computer made out of similar materials. I hate it and will not make this mistake again. I
hate it for the fact it is impossible to keep clean for more than 10 seconds. I do not mind the checker pattern and think it looks as good as anything else so
I will save my money for some new wheels.

If you don't mind doing a little work yourself, Lagston wraps dashes in gloss or satin black for $100. You'd just have to learn how to remove it.

Or go all out and get a carbon fiber (or body color) wrap
