Being a relative newby to MCO I am amazed, but not surprised, at the kind of product enthusiasm engendered by this little 4-wheeled soul-window. Only perhaps among Apple Macintosh loyalists have I seen such fervor.

I wonder then..... is there any chance that among MINI owners, a significantly larger percentage than otherwise exists in the general population, also drive Macintosh computers?

Christian

P.S. - Someone tell me how to get one of those cool picture signatures made. Thanks.

I work on a G4 desktop and 12" Powerbook everyday to run MCO. MCO itself is running on a Linux/Intel platform but since OSX has UNIX under the hood I do all my development here before moving it to the production environment. I also started on an Apple and now that I'm back on OSX (I've always been a UNIX hack) I'll likely stay here for a long time.

Based on my long running use of Apple products I think there is a lot of similarities to the passion you find in the MINI community when compared to the Apple community.

Hey, you know the saying: An Apple a day...
I switched from Crapple to Winblows years ago. My 2nd computer was an Apple Mac Plus with an external 20 MB (that's right, 20 megabyte) hard drive!
I have tried moving to Linux, but I just can do without my massive collection of pirated Winblows software.

My site is also produced on 12" & 15" Apple Powerbooks and hosted on a FreeBSD server. On one hand it's amazing how many MINI owners are Apple fans - on the other it completely makes sense. It's gotten to the point that I almost have come to expect diehard MINI fans to be Apple owners as well.

Peolpe buy a PC because they need a computer.
People buy MACs because they WANT a COMPUTER!

I use my notebook at home for nothing more than surfing the net.

Being a graphics guy, I use nothing but MACs for everything.
95% of my clients do as well.

Once you go MAC, you never go back!

I do all my video editing, website, grpahic, EVERYTHING on my 15" Powerbook. I also have an old G4 Desktop (slow as hell) but never crashes, hahaha. Ever since I switched, I would never ever go back. It's true how similar the Apple & MINI following are. Performance with style. They compliment each other very well. If Apple was a car it would be a MINI.

I agree...

My PC was a purchase to run about $35K worth of animation Software....

But since I lost interest, I just use it for Business and some graphics...

My iBook is for surfing and convienence...

I will be getting the G5... It's been a long wait baby!

MCO is usually running on my 15" Powerbook...except when I'm online from the second floor of my home, when I use my 12" iBook (since Airport reception on the Powerbook isn't so great upstairs from the base station). Sometimes, I'm also logged in via my wife's old tangerine iBook which lives in the kitchen...and that way I can have 3 macs going on MCO at the same time

I have a Flat Screen, G4 iMav and before that..I had the old "toilet seat" iBook. MINIs and MACs go hand in hand I think. Too bad Volkswagen is giving away a new ipod with every Beetle purchase. I think MINI dropped the ball on that one.

I joined MCO after reading your post. I couldn't resist as I have notice the correlation as well.

PW/B Mini Cooper

12" iBook

(prior to iBook, tangerine iMac)

Thanks Christian for this thoughtful topic.

I HAVE notice this same similarity. I tell others that if Apple had made a car it would be the MINI.

Form AND function, style AND capability. Unique, a trend setter, and icon.

Yeah and I have more than 10 macs at home-sometimes running all at once but mostly just only 5 for me. Did I tell you I was shaped like a starfish? Thought I was foolin when I used 5 computers didn't ya?

And for those Mac nuts out there I am a consultant with xlr8yourmac.com
check it out when you have time. It's sorta like a one man MCO -Mike Breeden does everything. I volunteer to help. He gets something like 400 emails a day.
I know RandyBMC can relate to that. I once took email for Mike due to a project I was working on and in one night I got something like 350 emails and it took me about 5 hours to respond to them all.

Well, if they'd only increase the MSRP by about $350, MINI too could "give away" an iPod with each new MINI. Ain't nothing's free...

(nice commercial for the Beetle/iPod deal though...saw it the other morning )

^^ i think its pretty sad of VW to do... i guess it just means the beetle sales are going down and they needed some way to get people interested........ if i was partially interested in buying a beetle i would do it now just for the additional ipod
