Disclaimer --
I am not trying to get flamed! I have a 2 Mac's and 1 Mini.... I completely support MCO and Apple for that matter....

Has anyone noticed the similarities between Apple and BMW/Mini legal departments? Apple is as bad if not worse than BMW/Mini laywers.... They go after anyone, especially the enthusiasts web sites that publish 'rumors' daily as well as all sites that use 'apple' or 'mac' in the doamin name. Apple has even fired and then sued there own employee's for revealing too much information. Too bad they didn't spend the same energy and effort fighting Micro$oft. I guess with great products come really crappy legal departments. What a shame... maybe if they didn't act this way we would pick up some market share.

Glad to see so many have chimed in. I have enjoyed reading these posts... Maybe a poll is in order. LOL. I myself have owned a plethora of MAC's and PC's through the years. While I have been able to get from Point A to Point B on both systems, When I drive my Macintosh, much like my MINI, I feel much more human.

MINI. Think Different.

Not since the start of my Mac days (I once worked for Apple - a great company and great prodcuts) have I seen such a community of enthusiasts. There is a relationship - I'll be the the portion of MINI drivers uses an Apple product is at least twice the average of people who drive specialty cars.

I must confess that I use an XP computer (good enough - but not my friend) and an iPAQ (the most Apple-like product outside the Mac, and my friend).

I'm at work right now and was reading this thread on my pc. but i decided to post my reply using my 15in pbook G4. My ex girlfriend who was into Mini's got me to buy her a new ibook and ipod before she dumped me. So now I'm getting a mini out of spite. Oh yeah and I really like them too.

I just thought of something. Bridger Mini has an article on the new "Puma" MCS prototyle. Apple's OS/X 10.1 was codenamed "Puma" wasn't it?

Coincidence? I think not.

I myself would love to see a G5 inspired anodized aluminum MCS with that cheese-grater-esque look. I may be in the minority, but I love the look of it. The existing sunroof screen wouldn't have to be changed at all.

Some clever Photoshop person out there should pop one of those out and post it for our pleasure. While you're at it, make me a cool sig to announce the impending arrival of my new BEATRICE.

On that, I must part. TGIF.

MINI. The car for the rest of us.

i love MINI's and hope to get one when i can drive. i'm a huge fan of apple and have a 12" iBook and a 15gb iPod (once i get an MC, i'll have to find a way to mount my iPod's dock in the car so i can slide my iPod in and press play)

Wow, ever since I heard about the G5 and read about it at apple.com, I have been thinking about purchasing an Apple as my next computer. They look absolutely beautiful. The problem is I am so used to crappy Windows. My other software on my AMD 2300+ machine is great, although I hear that multimedia stuff is better on a mac. My Windows XP still crashes way too often. So is it true that Mac's never crash? Is the software and hardware all integrated and very reliable? I also see that comparable Windows machines are much cheaper than any Mac. The new G5 is soooooooo hard for me to justify buying, but I love the look.

Which Mac should I consider for some video editing, some photo editing, great sound and graphics for my MP3 CD and DVDS, CD/DVD burning, lots of hard drive space, quiet fan operation (my computer is relatively loud), and for surfing the web?

Also, how difficult is it to transfer Windows based files to the comparable Mac products like Quicken, Outlook Express, Microsoft Word? Will a Mac network with my existing 802.11b wireless network on my Windows XP?

You know just as I just reviewed what I typed, I realise I should really talk to an Apple salesperson huh?

Any Mac salespeople here? I would love to buy from a MINI supporter

definitely go to a mac store if there is one in your area. i have to say that the lastest operating systems on Macs are SUPER easy to control... esp. coming from windows!
the thing i love most about my mac is that its "plug and play" no installing software or drivers or anything! example: my digital camera.. never installed a thing.. i plugged in the usb plug and a screen popped up! it doesn't get any more simple than that!

>>My site is also produced on 12" & 15" Apple Powerbooks and hosted on a FreeBSD server. On one hand it's amazing how many MINI owners are Apple fans - on the other it completely makes sense. It's gotten to the point that I almost have come to expect diehard MINI fans to be Apple owners as well.

I have not seen a survey but in the months I've discussed MINIs and computers with the MINI enthusiasts, I am amazed at the number who use Apples. I would bet it's well into 50%. and that is way higher than the percent of Apple users in the general public. People who like quality, and are loyal, etc... who started years ago with Apple and won't change -- those people love MINIs for the same reasons!

5 working Macs at home (several more functional but not hooked up - anyone want to but a B&W 350 G3 tower?)

>>Well I have a Mac and may go back! It's been in for repair about 5 times is 6 months!

You need to talk to Apple Customer Relations 800-767-2775. They can look up your cases and generally will do the right thing to keep you happy and on a Mac.

Okay lets see if I can help out with some of these questions:

When you actually compare spec for spec Apple and usually pretty close to PCs. It's similar to comparing a 3 series BMW to a Chevy Impala. Of course the Impala might look better on paper with the if not more horsepower, bigger, and 10k cheaper - but when looking at the entire package there is absolutely no comparison. It's the same when you look at Macs.

>>Which Mac should I consider for some video editing, some photo editing, great sound and graphics for my MP3 CD and DVDS, CD/DVD burning, lots of hard drive space, quiet fan operation (my computer is relatively loud), and for surfing the web?

Actually a highend widescreen iMac would work great for you. However if you can swing it the G5 will be amazing.

>>Also, how difficult is it to transfer Windows based files to the comparable Mac products like Quicken, Outlook Express, Microsoft Word? Will a Mac network with my existing 802.11b wireless network on my Windows XP?
>>

No transfer files is very easy. PC Word files are the same as Mac Word files - I cross platform with them everyday. There's actually a program that does a lot of the work for you in terms of moving over your PC files to your new Mac: www.apple.com/switch/howto/move2mac/

>>You know just as I just reviewed what I typed, I realise I should really talk to an Apple salesperson huh?

You also may want to check out www.apple.com/switch/

No computer will never crash. As an example, my G4 tower has crashed once in the year that I have owned it.

Mac Purist for 9 years, currently running a Dual G4 500 mhz at home, my kids have a G4 400. My parents have a G3 300m my sister has a 333 mhz iMac, her son has an old power Computing Powerbase 200, and at work I twiddle away on a Dual 1.3 ghz with a Gig of RAM while our Backup Dual G4 500 mhz machine does retirement duty as an iTunes Music jukebox with 600 albums to date. All the above machines were my personal work machine when they were new  I still use two Newton PDAs from waaay back. Oh yeah, I have 2 3rd Gen iPods, one lives in the MINI plugged into the AUX jack of the Harmon Cardon. You might say I'm a Mac guy

Yup, another one...

My home computers have always been macs...first one was an "upgraded" mac+ with a **1 meg** hard drive. I've owned several since and currently have 4 operating at home. I have to use Wintel occasionally at work (if I'm away from my desk) and it reminds me of having to leave the MINI at home and drive my wife's volvo...it gets me there but it's sure not as fun.

I've also noticed a similarity in thye mac & MINI communities...apple folks call it evangelism sometimes...when you find a great product its hard not to brag on it. The high % of MINImac drivers doesn't surprise me at all

I don't own a Mac, but I do get the Apple electronic newsletter. The latest one had a photo of the MINI bulldog and an article about how Shake is used to edit movies and commercials. You can see another photo and the article here:

To read the beginning of the article, shorten the URL to http://www.apple.com/pro/film/torres/

Everyone I know uses Windows-based computers

MCO just sold me an Apple!!! We should rename this site minicooper-apple-online.com...and here come more lawsuits..

Thanks again guys!!!

Been a Mac user since 1987, bought a Mac II back then. Have a 17” iMac Flat Panel now and I love it. Mac and MINI’s seem to go together.

I guess I can be called a MAC professional . I take care of 225 macs on a colllege campus.
I always say.. If you want to play with a computer you buy a PC
If you want to work buy a MAC!
I was called in by the networking dept. because their TruMobil wireless didn't work for a lab of Dell laptops. I showed up with my silver Airport (first generation) in 10 minutes all the computers were on the internet and the TruMobile (which cost 1 1/2 times more) was shut down.
For all the Mac users.. If you have keynote download the nerw patch ( Wed) and try it out again! for everyone else try out Mozilla Firebird 0.6 and start enjoying the internet again.
It works on all three platforms! PC, MAC and Linux
Mac is a state of mind not and OS platform!
See yah
