Top speed Info/Limiter questions...

Hey guys silversmoke posting another random late night i wonder what.... question
Tonights trivia is, Anyone know what a Bone stock R53 was good for on the limiter was? Did the Jcw make a diffrence?
Whats the car really capible of Delimited. and will it take a whole lot of power to do it.
Dose the Two diffrent gear sets (02-04) Vs. (05-06) Make a diffrence in top speed? or were they geared in the lower half to improve off the line jump?
Im just bored and curious.
Honestly not thinking about trying this... too freaken scary for me. At the track i may though. I don't want to hit some sort of limiter and don't want to be supprised.
Im only at 205 for power though. I want jan's head pretty bad....
beside the point.
Whats everyone think?

I have a totally stock 03 R53 and it won't do any faster than around 135 but i don't think that is because of a limiter, but rather from aerodynamics (or lack thereof).

can't remember for sure, but in either case i still think it was aerodynamics. i've driven other cars to their limit and the throttle cuts out momentarily and then resumes. The MINI just went there and just couldn't go any faster.

02-04= 136 JCW 142
05-06= 134 JCW 142

It is electronically limited on all, you can actually get go faster in 5th, because the computer doesn't know to reduce the airflow to maintain the limited speed.

Horde i love that programing hole, its pretty funny.

145 MPH...it got to 130 fairly quick but after that it took a while to get to the 145 and that was it. I had the pedal to the metal.

Well i was trying to figure out if it took a buttload of power to do it or your regular 240 horse car could do it.
and if so what is it for laughs. i suppose i could always sit down a do the math...
I just dont want to.
i got a 5 On my Ap calc and was told i never have to do math again.
so i dont wanna

Maybe one of the lucky ones in Germany can pipe in and tell us if US-spec cars have a speed limiter, and if the gearing change makes any difference at the top end. If anything, I'd guess that the newer ones just get up to top speed faster, and that top speed on our cars is limited by aerodynamics as opposed to hitting redline in 6th gear...

I am a bit curious myself, seems the 05-06 MCS revs just a tad bit higher at highway cruisin' speeds. Not enough (I would think) to make any real difference on top speed. I could be wrong though!

well supposing you had the power to push sixth all the way out.
and i think that say 200 rpm would make a big diffrence at all out rev

I was maxed out at 133mph on Gran Turismo 5 Prologue in the '06 MCS on the Daytona track. Pedal to the metal. :-) Fun!

that's just lazy. This isn't even calculus! It's just red-line, drive ratio and tire diameter. Get off you assss and do the math!

Matt

ps, for extra credit you can make a curve of power going into the wind as a fucntion of speed. It's not hard, and you'll learn something too!

Geeze... kids these days....

anyone who wants to sent me the final drive is welcome to ill do the math.
im curious now.
i found out my big block vette is suppose to run only 143.8
but that dosent explain why its seen 162 a couple of times.
could i have the wrong ratio i think so.

Wonderful little program called GEARCALC on the net. Put in all your info and it spits out top speed in gears.

Depending on torque curves you may or may not be able to pull that 6th gear so the lower final drive may be faster!!

in a vacuum, the JCW will pull 165 mph in top gear at 6,850 rpm

the cF on our little bricks is .39

the cF on a halfway slippery car is .29

would anyone care to calculate the hp required to overcome air resistance and actually reach that theoretical limit?

since i'm too lazy, i referred to http://www.mayfco.com/dragcoef.htm

looks like about 375 hp would get 'er done...
