Sport Stripes

We just ordered a sparkling silver Clubman S and are planning to have the dealer install the Mini sport stripes (bonnet and boot). My wife is getting nervous it's going to look too much like a race car.... Looking for comments.

I ordered my 08 MCS without stripes (which were free with the sport option), drove it for 6 weeks, and got the bonnet stripes added (no longer free). Looks more like a MINI now.

The stripes also let folks know when they look in their rearview that you mean business

And silver with stripes would also look quite slick!

It's all a matter of personal preference. Forty years ago I thought stripes looked cool. Now I think they make the aesthetics look way too busy. I've gone the other direction by debadging the cooper S on the boot hatch and reverting to the base cooper side grilles (no chrome, no S). If you are getting a package that includes the stripes at no extra charge, go for it. You can always remove them if you decide you don't want them.

the Viper stripes are ugly, the normal striping from the factory looks ok on some colours.

I love my sport stripes (viper - umm - they predate it by a couple of decades, they are just aping cobras, but Shelby didn't invent them, either).

Yes, it does look a little juvenile, but I am eternally 12 when it comes to cars. As others have said, if ya grow up later, they peel off fairly easily. I'd have loved to been able to get them in silver for my R56, but if I was gonna get it delivered with them, white would do.

I personally love the look of sports stripes. I ended up installing driver's edge stripes instead this weekend. Not bad for less than an hour's worth of work:

more in my gallery.

i agree too. the stripes just add some more of that mini flare to the car.

personally when my boat rolls in i'll have the viper stripes (bonnet, roof, and rear doors) and the extra driving lights.

I do not know how you can go wrong. The stripes definitely show your personality. And, if you do not like them you can always peel them off.

And this is a problem because...?

It's a judgment call. Personally, I think the stripes are entirely in keeping with the MINI's spirited personality. I wouldn't order one without, and can't understand why some people have such disdain for them.

I've ordered the Shelby stripe from Aesthetic Creations in dark silver carbon fiber with a red outside wide pinstripe. I perfer the finished edges of the Shelby vs the standard Mini Viper stripe, plus the opportunity to do a two-color version. Should arrive in a couple of weeks and I'll post some pictures after the installation.

Go for the stripes!! If you don't like them, break out the heat gun or hair dryer and peel them off. Some people say my B/W check bonnet stripes and B/W mirror caps are too gaudy, but I like em and that's all that matters.

Does anyone have pictures of their clubman with sport stripes? I'd like to see what they look like.

The pic with mine has sports stripes and it's Sparkling Silver.
No stripes makes her look 'naked.'

Stripes really make the "MINI" stand out. Wouldn't have ordered it any other way.

Actually, those are the bonnet stripes. The sport stripes are only a couple inches apart.

Outnumbered, MNTCooper originally requested Bonnet Stripes.

I now see someone else asked about Sparkling Silver.
I had to decide Viper or Bonnet on mine.

Gotcha. I think that a lot of people still get the sport and bonnet stripes confused.

These These are actually Shelby stripes - similar to Sports stripes except they have finished ends.

Go ahead and get it so we can see what it looks like. Our current plan is Sparkling Silver with silver sport stripes (hood, roof, and rear), driving lights, and chrome on the chrome on the chrome.
