Drivetrain Making Mods to an '05 MINI S
Making Mods to an '05 MINI S
I am finally getting around to adding some more horsepower to my Mini. I've already added a short throw shifter, HSport Springs and an Alta Rear Sway Bar.
I have the Alta Stealth Exhaust, 17% Pulley and the Alta CAI. The car has around 65K on it and it's running great. With these mods, is there anything else I need to do? ECU Flash? If so, Does anyone recommend any shops in Jersey?
I am new to the forum's and I have found a lot of very good advice, especially the How To's on the Pulley replacement. Awesome write-ups!

Wheels and tires, maybe? If that's been covered or you want to leave that for later, I'd say go ECU. As far as NJ shops go, I don't know. Depending where in Jersey you are, Helix shouldn't be too far away.

The car is fine at that level of mods. It's probably running well as is. Taking it to the next level would be 380cc injectors and a tune. I suggest doing both of these at the same time. After that, you're looking at a head, or maybe a cam.
I do have to say, injectors and custom tune are a really great "next step" and would recommend it. As far as where to go, find out where Jan will be coming next.. And go there.

This is off topic, but make sure you check out www.nemini.org and all of the fun events they hold.

Helix is the place to go and isn't a bad drive from NJ.
Give them a call.
Also nemini.org is organizing a run down to Helix in the near future.

I have wheels and tires already. Had to get rid of the run flats. They were killing me. Basically went suspension first, then horse power. The parts are going on this weekend and I cannot wait.. I figured, colder plugs and an ignition pack but wanted to find a quality shop to mess with the ECU.
How are the colder plugs in the winter?

Thanks, I didnt know what that meant either. It would be nice to see what this car can do on the track... Without getting a ticket..
That Shop Helix isnt far from me. I am right in the Princeton area. I will call them up and see what they can do for me with the ECU.
Going back, and it may be a stupid question, but I heard colder plugs are tough in the winter. Will I have problems, or should I change them for winter driving?
I'll post pictures when I am done.

The only difference colder plugs will make in winter is during the first 15-30 seconds of run time or so... and even then they will only affect your unburnt hydrocarbons emissions. You won't notice a difference, but your engine will appreciate the slightly improved detonation resistance.
mb - Anytime you want to meet up, let me know... Always interested in meeting other mini owners.
I was able to add the parts yesterday. The Pulley was certainly a tough job.. Especially, because I was being super precautious... First Time..
It ended up coming together without a hitch. Added the Alta CAI and the car sounds great. I am having clearance problems with the Alta Exhaust System with my B&M short shift kit. This is causing way too much vibration inside the car and is kind of annoying. I am looking at options now and hope this gets fixed soon.
All in all, the DIY instructions that were put together were excellent to follow.
