JCW Stage I dealer kit?

I heard the Stage I dealer kit (which bumps the power to about 205-208 hp in real life) is coming for the Clubman in April!

Anyone heard of this?

So basically it will have the intake mod, new ECU mapping and a new exhaust. (last part is not certain)

From my reading the Stage 1 only puts the power up to about 189hp. I do not specifically recall what the features are of the stage 1, but the price was abut $2100.

I think you can allready get it on the regular cooper s. I also think some people have gotten the kit online for less than 2100$...

Yes, it is currently available for R56 MCS manual transmission coupes. The 189 figure is the official number, which can be on the low side. BMW is very conservative about the figures they post to insure that with mfg. variations the worst cases will meet the numbers.

The Stage I kit gives up a little low-end torque for an increase in high rev performance. If you like to wind it up, the kit will be more satisfactory than the stock -- which tends to run out of breath at the top end of the tach.

It seems that MINI isn't comfortable with putting more power through the standard clutch and transmission, nor adding more boost to the standard pistons. The Stage II (factory built only) changes those parts. A spokesman said something to the effect that they did it to maintain the 100K+ miles life of the MINI.

Stage II factory only has bigger brakes, revised gearbox, new speedo and reworked engine. Stage I has intake, ECU, exhaust which indeed bumps the power up to 192 HP DIN. But many dyno tests have shown it produces 205-208 HP DIN at the crank and about 290 Nm of torque.

All going through the standard transmission with warranty. I know a bloke who runs 312 Nm through the stock gearbox without any problems.

...and bigger turbo, same intake as Stage II, upgraded clutch, upgraded Full Cat-back JCW Exhaust, optimized ECU, Electronic Differential Lock Control...

EU Spec is 192bhp and USA is 189bhp... Isnt it?

The Clubman roof Spoiler will be available in April, at least in Europe.

Only the spoiler?

189 HP SAE = 192 HP DIN (the only correct method in my opinion)

My local dealer stated the Stage I kit would be available this month or next.

We will see. I'm waiting for the Stage I kit to be availabel before I order.

I would also love to see the Clubman S offered in Mellow Yellow. Any word if this color might be available?

I've heard the opposite... I'm hearing that MINI has no plans for a JCW stage 1 on the Clubman since they do not think there would be enough sold to justify their cost to develop the exhaust for the Clubman kit.

Not so sweet

Why can't they use the Stage II exhaust from the JCW Factory car?

The pipes are too short !

Stage 1 JCW Kit for the R56 Coupe includes an exhaust system. From what I understand, a number of kits were made up for the Clubman S, until someone realized that the exhaust system wasn't long enough ! Go figure. Right now that's the limiting factor for the Kit on a Clubman

If MINI doesn't bother to make a Stage I exhaust for the Clubman, I wonder if it would be possible to get a dealer to install the kit for the coupe, minus the exhaust? You could have someone else put a third party exhaust on it, or have a muffler shop modify the JCW exhaust to fit.

Keep in mind that you're talking apples vs oranges as far as the coupe vs clubman exhaust is concerned. The coupe exits in the center of the rear; the clubman is split...at least the S is.

You might want to wait for the aftermarket to "catch up" with a Clubman S exhaust...be it Alta, Milltek, or whomever.

Take a look over at mini2.com and see if there's anything offered since the UK had the Clubman "long" before it showed up in the USA.

I have official confirmation on the kit. It will arrive at the end of this year, before the factory JCW is on the market

Same stuff, exhaust, exhaust manifold, airfilter and ECU. Same horsepower.

Price: +/- 2000 euro without mounting

My dealer says it's not worth the money, I think he's right.

it'll probably be the same price as the kit for r56. $2.1k for stage 1 kit isn't bad

20 hp extra for 2000 is a rip-off

but that's my opinion

In the Corvette world; $100 per 1 rwhp is about the norm for performance modifications. This price for the JCW kit is not out there in left field.

The advantage of the JCW kit is the ability to retain the factory warranty and get more hp.

You can certainly purchase aftermarket parts and acheive more hp,but you would be out of pocket for all repair expenses on the car which to me defeats any advantage of purchasing a new car.

Well, it's nearly official. At the end of this year it will arrive. Exactly the same as the R56 kit. Only difference is in the exhaust.
