Blacked out my rims!

with a can of satin spray paint!

The front aero bumper chipped like crazy the first week i got it back from the paint shop. the guy that painted it is now out of buisness..

I just cleaned the rims off with some water and acetone, and sprayed. its been a week and no chips or problems!
Now I just need to get those door handles blacked out.

After I put my CF door handles on I was pissed cause now I'm gonna have to blackout the wheels.

Your setup is looking good. What kind of paint are you using?

Well, ya' see, I do the work on my car. I was rotating the wheels and decided that while they were off, I'd mask them and get busy with the "rattle-can". The answer to your question: the painter (me) didn't charge me a dime for the, ahem, s#** job. I don't guess you can get yours off the ground without a lift, what with all the "Boom" in the boot....how much do you pay to have your wheels rotated?

Down boy. I believe he was talking about the bumper.

Now that I re-read this, he was not even talking to you.

Yeah, I think before jumpin down someone's throat, you should read what they have posted very carefully. Chris is asking the thread-starter about his bumper, not your wheels.

Nice look. I've got two of my s-lights done. The quality is only ok. I'm a little scared to try it on my R90s. I used duplicolor wheel paint which is supposed to hold up well to brake dust and chips.

Hey...sorry for the confusion, but yes Jason C has it correct. I was not talking to you. Although I do like yours as well, I should have specified to the both of you guys.

Haha, you people!
The painter charged me $700 for painting the CF hood, and the bumper...
As for the rim paint it took 2 1/2 cans of wal-mart grade, rust protection satin black spray paint. I don't remember the name, it was some off brand paint. I wanted to go with krylon but apparently they don't make satin black any more. Luckily its holding up nicley. I can get the name if any of you really want to know.

Prep work is the key. Make sure you get the surface REALLY clean. Flat colors stick better and are easier to touch up. If you use any gloss colors, you really should roughen up the surface a little with some not too course sand paper. Wheels take a lot of abuse and chips, scuffs, and scratches are to be expected. Also, with flat black, be careful what types of cleaners you use as that finish can stain easily.

Krylon still makes satin. Krylon® Interior-Exterior Semi-Flat Black (#1613) Mal-Wart just doesn't carry it. If you go to a True-Value hardware store they carry it. Plus they generally have the best prices on Krylon. I bought some flat black for less than $2 a can last month. And True-Values are usually independently owned franchises so you are supporting a local person.

Sucks you got shafted on the hood & bumper paint job.
