Nice job on the rims, I always like the DIY projects. Now I am thinking I may have to paint my s lites as well. Prep, Prep and more prep

Cars looking good. Once the door handles are blacked out I think it will look amazing. Keep up the good work.

I'll 2nd the question on anyone with recommendations to NOT do this? I haven't quite had my MINI for a year yet, and hoping I'm not cursing myself, to my knowledge I haven't yet given myself any scrapes on my rims. I base this off the lack of "clean" spots through the brake dust

I'm aching for some black rims, and lord knows this would be a LOT cheaper...even if I had to paint them a few times a year

Looks great!!!

Well im no DIY writer but ill just list what i did.

Step one: get all wheels off the car (make sure you pop the little mini capps off in the center)

Step two: clean any and all break dust off wheels (water and acetone worked for me)

Step Three: really make sure your wheels are clean and spotless.

Step Four: take blue painters tape and put 3-4 inch strips around the rim into the bead (where the rubber meets the rim) all the way around.

Step Five: you should have a ring of tape on the rim, you can put some plastic around and over the tire to keep from spraying the tire.

Step Six: Do a once over to make sure your rims are super clean, because any amount of junk not cleaned off will screw up the paint job.

Step Seven: after masking everything off, take your paint of choice, and spray small bursts from side to side (if you spray and linger in one place you will splotch up the paint and you will get runs, uneven coating and ugliness) Also make sure not to spray too close or it may splotch.

Step Eight: Let dry for at least 15 minuets before you put the wheels back on.

If you can find Krylon satin black that would probably be the best, but before you spray your rims, test your paint on something and see if it looks right and goes on even.

Another tip, warm your spray can up. I don't mean by sticking it in the microwave either. I get good results setting it in a sink full of warm water for about ten minutes. The paint will spray a lot better.

i was gonna paint my rims soon or powdercoat them..but seeing that they last a good while and dont chip too easily i might as well save me a couple hundred and spray it myself.
