Soap and water should be fine, as well as Simple Green, but test any engine degreasers or harsh cleaners on an inconspicuous spot first.
The body-coloured paint under the hood isn't clearcoated (or, at least not with the same quality clear that's used on the exterior panels), and it's not the toughest stuff. Things like brake cleaner, carb cleaner, and even 3M Adhesive Remover will lift the paint, especially if you do any rubbing will trying to get the oil stains out.

Like Scottriqui mentioned (not in so many words), the paint used under the hood sucks eggs.
I would try Simple Green, or WD-40, which is great stuff for gently cleaning any petroleum-distilate-based stains.
And it's gentle on your hands! You're soaking in it! (Sorry. 1960's flash-back)

Yep
under the hood doesn't get clear...just color. And color w/out clear is not durable.
WD-40 is what I'd use or
Spray with POR-15's marine clean then hit it with my steam cleaner....but you probably don't have those
so.....
this is a case where a trip to one of those coin operated power washer places might be a good idea....just becareful where you point the
spray head

You might also hear a new rattle, something akin to a golf ball rolling around in your glovebox, but the fluid mess in the engine compartment is a dead giveaway.

Hi All,
This is my first post as I just recently purchased a 06 MCSa PW and have been reading through the forum learning as much as I can about it.
After reading this thread I realized the oil residue on the body around and under the motor mount was probably due to a failed motor mount. Since this was there when I got the Mini and is not freshly wet how can I tell if the mount was replaced? Is there a test I can do or does the replacement mount look different?
Have really enjoyed reading this forum and hope in time I will also be able to contribute as well.
Thanks
