Here's my latest boot stripe installation with the variation of removing the Cooper badge and re-installing over the stripe. Let me know what you think.

and the stripes completed...

The full process can be viewd here DMP MINI Mods

Just interested in thoughts on the different styles of stripes, i.e. solid as shown above, notched as can be seen on my older thread(, or split around the badge a la MINIMOM's stripes.

Cheers

I definitely like the letters re-installed over the boot stripe. Looks solid!

That looks great. Did you get the stripes from your dealer and what is the fluid you use to mount them with? I am thinking we need a little personlization on our MINI and stripes are a cool way to do that. Thanks for posting your work.

I'd already seen your earlier effort and can tell you that I like this set-up much better! The cutout in the old style did something to the fluidness of the stripe. No problem like that here!

Here is another version that I did with my stripe set up, and I have decided I am happy with it.............. just something different, and with the name on top of the stripe ........

Nice job jigster. I'm not doing anything terribly original, but the latest style seems to be the most popular. I almost think no two MINIs should be alike, but I also like getting paid to do what I love to do.

Thanks to everyone else for the nice comments.

I make the stripes myself. I own and run a sign and graphics company in KC. BTW I'm not trying to sell anything, I'm just a MINI enthusiast and like to show off some of the MINI mods I've done.

You can use a mild soap solution to apply vinyl, but I prefer to use a special solution made for the sign industry for vinyl applications.

Happy modding!

what do you call the special solution and is it easily obtainable or do I need to go to 3M's web site to order?

I recently put on boot stripes on my MC. Tom at DMP design was very nice and helpful. In the kit I received from him included 2 sets of stripes (in case I messed up and I did), special solution and a squeegie. Installation took a 1.5 hours taking my time and a break for dinner. The hardest part was taking off the Cooper badge. I ended up having to buy a new badge from my dealer because the tape was not sticking right the second time.

The application solution is called Rapid-Tac. http://www.rapidtac.com/tac.html It's ok to use a mild soap solution - one or two drops of dish soap in a quart spray bottle full of water, but I've found that it takes a little longer for the soap solution to dry etc. I've been using the stuff for over 10 years and it works wonders.

noleski - Glad you got your stripes on but sorry to hear about the badge. That's the thing about mods - sometimes it's easy and sometimes there's a little extra required. I hope the experience was good, though and I'm sure you'll get lots of nice comments. I sure have. Most people who don't know MINIs think my boot stripes are factory. That's the nicest comment people can give.

I'm getting ready to put the full Union Jack on my lid today. I'll post some pics as soon as I finish.

I read on another board using WD 40 and dental floss for badge
removal. Thoughts? Will it hurt the finish?

i just used dental floss and some bug&tar remover, it worked great and was too easy!
a little wash and wax afterwords wouldn't hurt!

looks nice. makes it look more "apart of the car" than if stripe was notched around the text.

All you need for badge removal is a heat gun and some patience. Slowly heat up one letter at a time. The heat softens the adhesive. You can now slowly pull the letter off leaving a clean surface. I use a kitchen scraper to start prying up the hot letters. You could use your Blockbuster card or an ice scraper, but be careful not to scratch the paint. Just use the scraper etc. to get the letter started. Once you've got ahold of it, peel it off slowly. Repeat for all the letters and then just wipe down the surface with soap and water and that's it.

Very, very nice! Looks great. But what I really want to know is how you took that first picture with both of your hands in the shot!

Neat boot stripes!

I just did my own bonnet stripes w/ a roll of vinyl tape - they came out great & I have plenty left over for the boot, but was unsure about removing the chrome trim.

Thanks for the info.
