I'm prolly gonna order in the next few days. $27,600 MSRP... Edmunds tells me invoice is about $25,355. Dealer wants to charge me $28,600 but he'll put in Lo-Jack and floor mats. Out the door door price WITH ttl (I'm prolly paying cash but still need to watch every penny) is $31,134. I wanna do a straight $30k but they're not really giving me too much room to wiggle. I'm thinking about saying Yes to this if I get Xenon Headlights. Just wondering, if all these prices match what is on MINIUSA's configurator then do you know how much the Lo-Jack costs plus its installation? Basically, I'm asking how much of a deal is the MA giving you on the Lo-Jack and mats?

I've never paid less than what the configurator said but I have had some extras thrown in in the past...like the iPod aux and install for it and mats...and am hoping for something this time around. I don't think they have any real wiggle room on Clubman specs. - but what do I know?

 

Depending on the dealer you are working with, SOME will take off the Lo-Jack if you REALLY don't want it. Floor mats - well - some MA's throw them in as a freebie and some don't.

We insisted on NO L-Jack - and they complied (Brecht). Like I said, some dealers won't budge on that, as it's their way of making a little extra $$$.

Never pay more than MSRP! There are other dealers out there who won't mark the car up beyond that. Buy from them. Don't buy from the people who think you'll pay more. Very few people pay less than MSRP, but only people who don't want to take the time to shop around pay more.

 

Absolutely Tim. I had never ever heard of anyone paying more than MSRP until I read here about someone's complaining about this some dealer in California wanting "more". I think I'd report them to MINIUSA.

 

some dealers are telling me: "Other dealers are charging 2-3k over msrp for the clubman'. I think it's a BS sales tactic, but they gotta try somehow

 

Long Beach MINI charge MSRP, ask for Tony, the sales manager, and said that Alan ordered the Clubman send you there

 

Tony?? I talked to Matt and he said HE was the sales manager :P I really enjoyed talking to him too, thing is, I'm in Diamond Bar. It's reaaallly out of my way for service, etc. And Crevier will do the whole 'free loaner car/pick ya up if needed/ free car wash whenever' thing

 

Tony and Matt are partners I deal with Tony directly, either should give you the same deal. I am in West Covina and also drove all the way to Long Beach to get my good deal. Assel just quote me $5000 over MSRP and they didn't even answer my email that ask them to match Long Beach price

 

You don't need to get service at the same place you buy from. It's under warranty, so there won't be any markup on that. And, are free car washes really worth $1,000? That's like 50 car washes. How much do you really need to wash your car out there?

You need to send these dealers a message. Tell them "Tell you what, I'll be bringing my car in here for service because it's convenient and I hear your service department is great. But I'm going to buy the actual car from a dealer who doesn't charge more than MSRP".

For years, I've been buying cars like Chevys, Fords, Dodges, and Nissans. I've always managed to buy those cars for what I considered cheap. I love to wheel and deal. It was weird to know that there wouldn't be any "wheeling and dealing" when I would go in to buy a MINI, but I don't mind it. The car is worth it, and they aren't making more than they can sell, meaning they have a good financial model. But the car is not worth more than MSRP.

I can't think of any other way to put it. Don't just do it for yourself. Do it for the good of all MINI buyers. Do it for the good of the fair MINI dealers. Any dealer who charges more than MSRP is getting the upper hand, and they think you need them more than they need you. They are wrong! Without the customer, they wouldn't be here. Walk away and go somewhere else!
