Ralph Schomp rocks

took the car in this morning due to three small but nagging issues:

clock did not keep time
rattle from the door speaker
metalic rattle at idle

just got a call, new clock display, applied insulation on the door and a NEW FLYWHEEL. All in a days work. Great job.
I wish every dealer had this level of service.

My MINI was there on Thursday for an oil change and a nit. The service department folks did a great job since this was like my first time at the dentist.

Still waiting on a fix for the nit, but it will get done.

I even had a really nice 08 Cooper 6 speed with all the bells & whistles for a loaner. Only 35 miles on the OD when I took it out. Made for a nice Starbucks and lunch drive.

It was a nice driver but not my MCSa.

now I am jealous, I had a chevy cobalt. I have not been in a car manufactured in this century with crank windows before. No complaints though, I onle made my appointment on Tuesday so I was not even expecting a loaner. Next time I will try to schedule a month ahead and ask for a clubman S.

Chevy Cobalt? Do they even have those at the BMW side? That's harsh.

I wish the extended warranty paid for fixing rattles. I'd love to take mine in to them and have them fixed.

Yes they certainly do a good job for the couple of times I've taken mine there.

If manufacturers cared enough about long term quality, they would have spent the time insulating each piece of plastic or metal inside the cabin with thin strips of felt or whatever so the materials cant rub against each other and make noise. Go take apart an older luxury car like a 90's lexus sc400 or whatnot, you will find that they dont rattle or squeek inside after 10+ years and every part and bolt hardware has a felt ring around it followed if possible with insulation. Thats what makes them a luxury car.
So, if you want those rattles gone, go take your door panels/dash/interior trim off and insulate every part with felt or similar material. That should take care of it nicely. But if you are in there, you might as well add some more sound dampening material.

I have enjoyed my experience at Ralph Schomp as far as ordering goes, even though they didn't come down from MSRP or throw any "goodies" in with my order but I understand why. Also, it seems they're service department has treated most people well.
The question I have is: Does their service department frown on performance aftermarket parts not installed by them?? I know from dealing with the Nissan dealers in the area, that some dealers are much better than others.

MiniEnvy,

I think the SA's and Schomp is pretty good about mods. I have talked with a couple of them about some of the things I'm thinking of doing with Scooter.

They appear to be ok with suspension, wheels, reasonable performance mods. I mentioned the unichip option and that was one which got the old maybe not a good idea.

But a lot of folks feel the Alta Chip/unichip for the R56 is a good option and you can take it off for service work, if that is your preference.

I think CAI, springs/coilovers, cat-back, etc. would be ok, unless it caused some other component to fail.

So don't install a larger turbo and expect the engine warranty to be valid.

Thanks!! This was kinda the answer I was hoping for!! I don't want to get too crazy but the general mods like you had listed like CAI and the ALTA Turbo tube upgrade kit , exhaust, and maybe suspension.

I have gone to them for serivece on both my r53 MINIs. Neither one of them were bought from them actually as i bought them used. They had simple mods, CAI, sways, 15% pulley and exhaust. They have never made an issue on warranty claims. however I am sure if i went there with a bad supercharger and showed them the 15% WMS pulley it would be a different story.

I have heard horror stories about most Japanese car dealers and warranty work on modded cars. Not so much with BMW.
