Miltek resonator

I'm curious about how one would know a resonator has gone bad. I've seen posted here about several people with Miltek's which had to have the resonator replaced. Mine obviously is out of warranty with over 30k miles.

The reason I ask is because for the last few months it seems my exhaust has become louder. Not bad at all just louder. Is this a sign of a bad resonator? Also, does a bad one do anything to performance? I'm thinking if it is bad then I may just cut it off and try the exhaust for a while without it to listen how it sounds. Has anyone run a Miltek without a resonator?

I was running mine w/o it for a while and was using the stock pipe instead. I actually liked it! It is a bit louder but gives out a more pronounced growl to it. It still didn't have any of the drone at highway speeds.

I thought the Milltek has a lifetime warranty, SB. Who did you purchase it from? Ask them about it. Mine has gotten a bit louder since it was installed in 2006. I love it.

I'll have to check into that, Clo, if that is my case. It was purchased in late 05 but I can't remember who. It was one of two places but I purchased a few items during that time from each.

brownflyer, so it still retains the nice deep tone? That's my favorite part.

Take a look and see if it has cracked.

This was the second of two defective Millteks, my opinion of their product is not favorable.

When the resonator on my Borla exhaust when bad, the plates inside the resonator came loose and started making rattling noises. The Borla exhaust was replaced under the million mile warranty. On my current MCS, I have a Milltek. The Milltek has a lifetime warranty. From the Milltek Website:

"As long as you are the original purchaser, cat-back exhaust systems are covered by a lifetime anti-corrosion and manufacturing defect warranty...All warranty cases should be dealt with by the Milltek appointed distributor from whom you purchased the system. However, if you are dissatisfied with the service of your distributor in response to your claim, you can contact us directly by emailing us at techsupport@millteksport.com."
