Somewhere to stay?

Hey Everyone!

We're thinking about trying to make it out to the Dragon this year. We've never been before and this will actually be our first vacation in a while so we wanted to stay somewhere nice. I've been looking around at all the different places to stay and the Blue Boar Inn sounds and looks REALLY nice. I've also heard good things about it from other forum members. The only problem is it's about an hour away from the Fontana so I'm not sure if I want to stay that far away.

IF we did stay there though, I saw on their website that they have some really beautiful cabins available. There's one in particular that's available for $250 a night. Would anyone possibly be interested in splitting this cabin? It's a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom place with a full kitchen and living room. Here is the link to photos of it...

Anyways, I figured I would just throw this out there and see if anyone else was interested in splitting something like this with us. It would be a great opportunity to stay somewhere REALLY nice at a cheaper rate than their regular rooms! The only issue is the distance to the Fontana but I'm not sure if that's even THAT big of a deal?

Thanks,
Celia

We stayed there last year. Great place. It took us about 30-35 minutes to get from there to Fontana.

You must have been hauling butt. I stayed at Blue Waters which isn't too far from Blue Boar (closer to Fontana) and it took me 45.

if it's available, I'd grab it if I were you...I'm sure room mates will be easy to come by. If it's Robbinsville, that's less than an hour to Fontana.

Thanks for all the suggestions and input everyone! As of last night when I checked, the Blue Boar Inn still had a few NICE rooms as well as the cabin so I don't necessarily have to get the cabin. We could get our own room. The cabin would just have been a little bit cheaper if there was someone who was interested in splitting it and it would work out nicely because it's 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.

I *think* what I'm going to do is go ahead and book a room at the Blue Boar Inn and if someone decides they'd like to share a cabin, we can always cancel our room reservation if the cabin is still available. OR, if something opens up at the Fontana, we'll cancel at Blue Boar. They allow cancellations up to 10 days before the reservation date. We're on the wait list at the Fontana but I think we're #40 or something stupid like that LOL. But, you never know!

Anyways, if the drive from the Blue Boar to the Fontana is only 30 to 35 minutes, that's really not bad at all. On the MOTD website, it said it was a 58 minutes from the Blue Boar to the Fontana. When I Mapquested it, the travel time came up at 45 minutes but that was for a little bit past the Fontana so I'm thinking 30 to 40 minutes?

Thanks guys!
Celia

I'm good for the other half of that cabin - no problem. The GF and I could use a location that lets us get just a touch away from ground zero. Particularly if either of us are still jet-lagged when we get there - I'm in Iraq, she's in Manila!

PM or reply in-thread, yer choice. Man, I still gotta figure out which direction I'm coming from - down from Maryland, or up from Huntsville? Decisions, decisions..

If work sked deep-sixes this vacation, you'll know pretty dayum soon, so you can get this taken care of. Otherwise - I'm down!

The wife and I stayed at the Blue Boar last year. The drive through town takes 45+ minutes, but the other way around through the park takes about 35. This is driving speed limit through the park (25MPH I think) then driving in a "spirited" fashion the rest of the way. The only time the drive was not fun was after a late night event, like the Monte Carlo night. Plus, depending on your idea of a party, the drinking has to be in moderation. For me this was a couple of drinks and no more. The night drive is a blast, but requires a high level of concentration. NOT a booze and cruise place!

Hello All,

Brief update. I HAVE reserved the Blackberry Cottage for MOTD dates. Interested in the other half of the space? Gimme a PM or two. Just be patient, I'm in Iraq, and don't always catch PM notices and such that quickly.

Cheers!

Here's another update everyone -

I had asked to be placed on the Tapoco Lodge's wait list for a room. They just sent me an email saying that they have gone through their wait list and still have a few rooms available. SO, for anyone looking for a room for the Dragon, try contacting the Tapoco Lodge. You can ask for Marsha. Also, here is the link to their website...
