Annoying rattle from muffler how to stop it

I bought my '03 R50 a few months back, bone stock except for full header back Borla exhaust. So I didn't do the install so I cant tell what the deal is, but when sitting at a light at idle there is a rattle from the back of the car that is REALLY annoying.

At first I thought it was the rear deck lid, but I was outside and I started my car and I was looking around outside the car and I think I pinpointed the rattle to the muffler. it will rattle and if I hold the exhaust tip (cold of course) it stops.

Without installing the muffler/header myself I dont know where to start, to stop the problem... Has anyone else had this? Any ideas on how to fix it?

-Thanks

Crawl under the car, jiggle the tips and see where it's hitting. Should be obvious.

But if I hold the tip and it goes away, I dont apply alot of pressure or push down on the tip

Right, when you hold it that stops it from hitting on whatever, so when you're under the car and move the exhaust slightly you should see what's making contact with the exhaust.

When I had my Magnaflow installed, I got a similar rattle/vibration. Turned out it was the hanger rods closest to the cat. The rod was rubbing up against the heat shield in the exhaust "tunnel". Put a rubber stopper on one side of the rod and the vibration went away.

I had a similar problem. Took it to the dealer and they took the rock out of the exhaust

I haven't looked yet, but I think I have the same problem...it is quite annoying.

Hey guys,

I've got a very annoying, very loud rattle that sound like it's coming from under the gear shift. The rattle only happens at 2050 RPM and goes away as quickly as it appears. The guys at the dealership recently replaced all the hangers (because the old ones had rusted out), but the rattle is still there, so that's not the problem.

I know sound can travel under the car, but is there a heat shield under the gear shift area? I should probably get under the car and take a look, but with the snow and blinding cold, it's just a real pain (and yes I'm a wimp)

I have this kind of rattle when my MC 2006 sitting with gear in R or D (It's an automatic). I started the car and hold the muffler it still rattling. I have scheduled an appointment next Monday. Hope they can fix it and another problem. My car shakes (yes, shakes) with rpm drops down and goes up again when shift to "D" in early morning (car is cold).
