Hello all ... newbie here.

Just picked up my Chili Red/White Cooper last week and am in need of mats.

Any place on the web where I can get them without going through the dealer.
Seems that my dealer wants to charge me 1 hour labor for "install" for the mats if bought through them. Is this the norm??

Welcome to MCO!

Check out Classic Auto Campus.

They are an MCO sponsor, and MINI dealer who sell OEM parts at very discounted prices. They are super friendly, and very fast. A good may to get original MINI parts and accessories at a discounted price.

After you have purchased the car step around to the parts window and ask for mats. You pay, they hand you the mats. No installation charge. Of course careless installation of your mats may void your warranty.

I'll even give you free instructions on how to install the mats (this is a secret taught only to MINI technicians):

1: Open the doors.

2: Drop the mats on the car floor.

3: Shut the doors.

4: Charge customer $65 labor.

Thanks for this tip .. called them and got the rubber mats that are $48 for $39 .. sweet deal I must say.

Let me see how they deliver on this and I think I will get some more things from them.

Not only does my dealer charge for "installation", the parts department is not even open on weekends.

Good to find this place.

First of all welcome to MCO!!!!

Second...I agree with what's been said here but my dealer installed some little 2" velcro disc-screw things into the floor that really helps secure the mats in case they slip, escpecially if passengers are flailing about in the twisties. Anyway, you can probably find these, but its the only possible thing I could come up with that even remotely resembled anything like an "installation." One hours labor though?...fugetaboutit!! Oh, maybe that included taking them out of the box!

Geez, the dealer should have thrown in the mats for free, that's how I got mine. He wants to charge you for the install on mats? That's the most rediculous thing I have ever heard, tell him you can install them yourself.
Well, now that I think about it, don't give this dealership anymore of your business, they aren't worth it. Who's the dealer?

Those velcro discs will come with the mats from classicmini. They send you the same box that the dealership gets with the install instructions. I chose not to put them in, the mats stay just fine, but you get them if you want them.

I echo that about the velcro screw things. My mats sit down and stay just fine w/o those...but I still have 'em just in case my car suffers from a bout of antigravity or something. )...but hey, if they do, good deal! I would draw the line though at paying for the dealer to "install" them.

With that dealer attitude, you may want to start shopping for a different dealer for service. I hate to think about what you'll end up suffering the first time you try to make a warranty claim.

I'd just tell them you want to install them yourself. if they say no, go elsewhere. I do think they are nice though. They like a burbur material and clean easy. There is also a MINI badge in the corner--nice.

The OEM rubber mats are nice!!

The OEM carpet mats are not even close to being worth what they charge. I would recommend looking at the mats that Moss offers (which we sell as well) the whole kit including the trunk mat is a nice addition to the MINI. They are thick, plush and well made in comparison to the stock mats.
