MCS Air & Fuel Filters - Anyone changed theirs yet?

As the title says. Has anyone changed theirs yet and what was the condition etc at the mileage you did it. Also, does the car even have a fuel filter? My 2001 Civic was fuel filterless, and I was amazed when the parts guy told me this, so I was wondering if the BMW engineers did the same thing. Thanks in advance for any knowledge from the collective.

I changed my air filter to a K&N drop in at 10,000 and clean it every other oil change. I change my oil every 5000 and clean my filter on the 10s. Makes it easy to remember.

The fuel filter is a different animal. It is built into the left side pickup INSIDE the fuel tank. I did buy the filter so it clearly is replaceable but I have yet to have the time to do it. That will be a spring job as Artoo now has 70,000 miles.

Thanks for the reply, Rich. How was that stock filter when you removed it? Wondering how much buildup was in the element.

I got the fuel filter a while ago and tryed to replace it with no luck. For some reason I had no clue how to open filter housing. If you get a chance to do it and let us know how , that would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I am planning this for the beast. I have my first free service coming up and I was planning to pick up the parts when I am at the dealer. I'll do the replacements and report back about what I find.

Again, if anyone has done this already, it would be nice to see what kind of buildup was experienced. Of course the mileage when changed, and the driving conditions would be a nice benchmark as well. Thanks!

You can check this thread out and see what the housing looks like and why I had trouble taking the filter out.

I changed my stock air filter to a K&N panel filter at around 15k. Had a bunch of leaves in the airbox, but the stock filter prevented anything from getting through. K&N doesn't do a whole lot if anything that I can tell, but does increase the intake noise a bit. I only got it because it was easy to order on Amazon.

Ok tried the fuel filter. F^@& F^@& F^@& F^@& F^@& F^@& THAT!

its is nearly im-freaking-possible to get the two parts of the canister apart.

And if they do get there Id hate to have to get them back together. The dealer has got to have a tool for that thing...

Oh well. buttoning this thing back up.

EDIT: Finally got the canister back in after a few more loosening attempts.... which still proved failure.

Was going to photograph the whole process, but it is identical to the 1st gen writeup

The only other pic I could have got would be after twisting the metal ring counterclockwise with a screwdriver and rubber mallet. comes right off then the canister of death pulls out....
