Rear View Mirror

For tall guys like me, the standard Mini rear view mirror is anything but mini. It's a huge, hulking thing that blocks a lot of vision at eye level. I have to look around it or duck my head to see under it, and it's getting to be a pain.

Anyone heard of any aftermarket replacements that eliminates that ridiculous, too big, housing?

My 03 has a "too small" mirror which is actually just right. Sounds like you need an 02/03 mirror.

I'll have to check it out. I'd be quite happy with something very basic like my MGB has.

Hey Gromit801,

You're probably aware of this, but the '06 mirror also serves as the housing for the remote doorlock receiver. I replaced my stock mirror with a 5-panel Wink mirror, which as a tall guy you wouldn't like. Anyway, it took me a bit of time to carefully disassemble the oem mirror and "transplant" the electronics to the replacement mirror.

Even the 02, 03 mirror gets in the way of vision. I want to mount mine on the dashboard somehow like the old corvettes.

Hopefully, an inventive aftermarket dealer will come up with an answer someday.

I've seen a few move it to the dash so tall guys like us can look over it, I know the WINK Mirrors mount higher and drop about 3in, but I'm not sure if they'd be high enough. At the moment I can still duck so I'm living with it for the time being. Once I decide I can live with a racing seat and all that goes with that I'm hoping the lower mounting of the sliders will be a big benefit. I also know a few out there have it setup for quick release and just stow it in the glove box during the twisties relying on side mirrors for those streaches.

I'll have to dig through some links for a few min, I know it was a guy with a cabrio, basically put a plug on it so it was a simple twist clip and place in the door pocket or glove box and he was all set.

I'll see what I can find for threads

No disconnect source yet, but here's a thread on the WINK, I know GRM also used a WINK on their track MINI before it got cubed. Looks like it sits a little higher up

The rearview mirror is blocking a portion of our FORWARD view, not the standard "blind spot". That's what we'd like to fix.
