Springs

Hey y'all.

Looking at getting some springs for my 04 R50. I'd love to see some shots/optinions of what's achieved with the different brands.

FWIW - I live in Minneapolis, so I'm contending with snow for part of the year (...well, most of it) but I'm still looking for a new, flatter stance.

Any pics/perspectives would be nice.

J

I'm gonna post some more pics in a few days of my car lowered on TSW springs. I think it looks fantastic and as far as the handling of the vehicle, I wouldn't change a thing.

Same springs as I have and I love them. Only thing better would be to get a set of coilovers.

I agree! And even that could be questionable! H&R coilovers and Bilstein Coilovers for our cars ride rather stiff if you ask me.

As far as I know the TSW springs are the only linear rate springs available right now.

Thanks for the input, fellas.
2nd question would be, is this something I could install myself or should I have it done by a shop. If I take it to a shop, any idea how much I should expect to pay (roughly)?
Also, are there any immediate clearance issues you guys have found in day-to-day driving? (with snow, speed bumps, etc)

Thanks y'all!

J

The only issues I have had is on sloped driveways, I will occasionally get a little scraping of the front plastic air dam. It sounds bad, but it isn't anything I worry about.

Yeah for sure! What wonders can be worked for being lazy and leaving the stock size tires on the car! All in all, the grip is actually very good on the H-Speed rated conti imho. I might do a set of Dunlop DR1 tires in the summer, but we will see. The tire rating of 200 for treadwear scares me

For the whole thing, I paid $200 for the springs and another $150 to install them and about 2 hours total. $350 out the door and the car rides and looks much better.

I do run the OEM struts becasue that is what this spring was designed for. With the black powdercoat, they look OEM as well. The Linear rate feels great and they match up well with OEM equipment. Now I am looking for better rubber and a few more suspension tweaks to really make it a summer mountain warrior.

200 treadwear just means you save on brake pads cuz you don't have to slow down as much for turns

This sounds right up my alley.Did a local shop install or did dealer install?
Did you or do you need rear control arms because of the drop?Do you require an alignment?
Thanks

I had Webb Motorsport install my springs for me. If you have a reputable local shop that will work on the suspension of your car, then that would be my first choice. A good dealer can do it as well. The beauty of the TSW springs is the rear control arms do not need to be replaced (i'm sure it can help, but it is not necessary)

I think alignment would be a good idea, but I did not get my car aligned after the spring installation. The car rides fine and doesn't pull at all. I absolutely love the springs that are on my car.

Honestly, these springs are the best mod I put on my car whn it comes to both appearance and performance.
