I would say pull your wheels apart & have the wheels painted black & leave the polished lip polished.

Why not...

...get your favorite wheels, and then have them "black diamond chromed". If you are not familiar with it, it's a finish I have only seen on wheels for sale at Long Beach BMW. They'll send whatever wheels you like out for this awesome looking finish, which I can only describe as shiny like the most perfect chrome, clear coated in a really dark grey tint.

It just looks REALLY cool!

But, it is pretty expensive.

Worth a look I think.

tirerack.com is an easy source for ideas -- their site allows you to see each wheel on your vehicle (you can even change the car color to match yours)

Careful with the Astro Black and black wheels though - the Astro Black has that great little hint of blue metallic in it and your wheels won't (unless you either custom-paint or add some blue pearl/metallic clear over). You may end up with one too many shades of black. Take a look at this thread - currently 128 pages of great ideas...

IMHO, if you're going for a black wheel, just get anything. Black wheels all look like steelies to me, and flat disappear when rolling. Find something light and reasonably easy to clean (not too many spokes), since our Minis throw off a lot of brake dust.

And of course, I'm partial to the Astro Black (my '06MCS is AB/S).
