Gotta problem

Ok, I changed my right strut mount today. Took note of how each part was taken off, switched the mounts out, and reversed the process. Took for quick spin around the block and I get a knocking sound, but only when I hit a road imperfection, or a slightly uneven spot. Any idea of what this would be. This is the side that got messed up after hitting a big pothole. Only thing I could think is that the spring wasnt set right, checked it and it matches how the left side is sitting. nothing appears to be loose so I haven't got a clue. Any ideas? Thanks

Ok, after closer inspection, the spring, plus the rubber that it sits on has moved. It has moved like it was turned. How do I fix that?

Sounds like you forgot to tighten the damper nut on the top of the strut.

I tightened it down as far as it would go. I saw there is a hole for an allen wrench in the center does this have anything to do with it?

Edit:
Just tried the tightening thing, cut the rubber gasket, can my day get any worse?

The allen hole lets you hold the shock shaft if/when it turns against the locknut when tightening down the top hat to the strut.

Um, what rubber gasket? The top cap that hides the shock shaft, or the whole top hat bushing?!

The piece of rubber that sits between the strut and the spring, on the bottom. I think I know what I did wrong, I put a washer in the wrong place. Any Ideas of where to get the rubber piece?

Are you talking about #11 in the picture?

Call up Classic MINI; they offer 20% off parts for NAM members. Also, read up on RealOEM.com the strut assembly order to get it right.

I use a combo of an allen head driver and a spark plug socket to tighten everything up (cause the hole at the top for the allen and the hexed portion of the socket allows you to tighten it with a wrench)...
