Score: Mr.Motor = 1, Ryan = 0

Last night I lost control of the MINI during a [getting used to my new rear anti-roll bar] drive. The car spun and crashed into a turnaround median, a few signs, over an embankment, and landed in oncoming traffic. Yes, I was speeding; Yes, I had my DSC off; Yes, I feel like a *******. From retracing the cars skidmarks, you can see that I actually corrected properly, however the car had just too much momentum, so it was out of my control. Needless to say, I'm horribly embarrassed, bummed out, and pissed at myself. I snapped a few pics-of-death at the impound lot (have to wait until Monday when the collision shop is open). The drivers’ side head curtain and side airbags deployed, definitely saving me from serious injury. The drivers’ side suspension also collapsed, absorbing lots of energy. There is body work damage from hitting the signs; none of the doors, boot or bonnet close properly; the bumpers are both broken; the engine doesn't sit in the bay correctly anymore, all the wheels and tires are damaged, and the tow company scratched the bonnet up horribly.

All in all, I'm safe (save an airbag burn on my left arm), but looks like my insurance will be getting a severe workout with this error. Best-case scenario is Mr.Motor gets totaled, and I order a new MINI. Worst case is the collision shop sucks and the MINI suffers chronic-gimp-syndrome. I have no idea how all my modifications will pan out. I can't stress enough that this is MY fault; the MINI was awesome, especially in saving the nut behind the wheel.

Ryan, I am glad neither you nor anybody else was hurt. Bummer about your MCS. You show true character in admitting the accident was your fault, not too common in this blame someone else age. Take it from someone who has wadded up more cars than I can count; life goes, your insurance premiums go up for a while and you hopefully learn from past boo-boos. It happens to the best of us, some more than others and I’m talking from experience!

sorry to hear about that.

Just out of curiousity did you have your sway bar in the stiffest setting?

hate to see your MINI like that, but glad you're ok.

thanks for the support guys.

I'm in total mourning for the MINI. I know in the end everything will be OK.

Dave, I have the H-Sport springs and Competition bar, I had it set in the middle holes.

I hope the swaybar isn't bent, but if not there is no way I'm giving it up, it's amazing!

I'm glad your not bent. Thank God for that. I hate this happened to you, I know how much you love that car.
I feel your pain. Keep your spirits high, everything will work out fine.

Oh wow  mentally is another issue

I hope this wakes up more than a few drivers to be careful out there on the roads.

I wonder how Mr Motor could be salvaged. I don't know anything about collision repair but how do they bend a car back together if it is damaged structurally. Doesn't it lose it's inherent strength and rigidity at that point?

I'm a fan of auto racing and I just can't get over the fact that some cars can be salvaged. If you rip out the suspension let's say, by hitting a big rock on the world rally course, how do the new bolts even fit again? I just hope I never have to find out personally.

Good luck Ryan

RYAN!!!

I am sooo sorry, sweetie! But I am soo happy you are safe and sound! I totally know how you feel-when I had my accident and the cop came, I was crying hysterically and he kept asking me if I was ok. I was, I was just soo sad about my poor car!! Mr. Motor will be ok, and it is a good thing you didn't get your new wheels yet! They can be a present to Mr. Motor when he gets all better!!!!

Take care and keep us posted!

Erin

Ryan,
Sorry to hear about you and Mr. Motor. Please let us know what happens once everything is sorted out.
Makes us all try to be a bit safer when driving. Not worth all of the heartache that follows. Proves again that
the MINI is very safe. I might be that Mr. Motor gave his life this time- only the insurance adjuster can say.
Thanks for posting the pictures.

Looks remarkably well for such .................carnage

Stout ride that MINI.

Ryan, glad you're all right, as others have said the car, even though we all love them, is still just that a car and can be replaced. You Son can't be.

I like others here have been in your shoes, things will work out. I'm pulling for your “Best Case Scenario”.

Good luck man
