iPod Interface - where is it???

First, I picked up my new MINI yesterday and couldn't be HAPPIER scooting around town!!!!

Secondly, my previous car (for 8 years) was a Jeep Wrangler Sahara .... roll down windows, pull-**** for headlights, manual everything! So, all the buttons, *****, etc. are taking some getting used to.

OK, so my new MINI came with an IPod interface. Supposedly, I can attach my IPod to a connection in the glove box. But for the life of me, I can't find the connection port. Am I stupid (very likely)? Is it not an obvious connection? OR (suspicion), was the IPod interface not installed?

Embarrassed, but need to find out what I'm overlooking!

The iPod interface (assuming you actually do have one) would be in the "secret compartment" which is a compartment behind the dash trim on the passenger side of the car. Simply push the dash trim in that area in and it should pop open.

The iPod adapter has been a great option. My only regret about it was that I had to deal with some really annoying rattling issues directly related to it during the first week of ownership until they were fixed. If you don't have the said issues, then you are in good shape. If you do you may want to search my previous posts to see which of the dealer's fixes really resolved the issue.

Thanks for responding!

So, the IPod connection is NOT in the glove compartment? Not sure they showed me the 'secret compartment'.

I'm thoroughly confused

But plan on just sitting for a couple hours in the MINI tomorrow figuring everything out.

Still, I couldn't be HAPPIER!!!!! Luv the MINI!

They probably didn't, I think you would remember it. It is above the glove compartment.

That's EXACTLY what I needed (an image!!) .... Thank you! Unfortunately, they don't provide this in any of the numerous manuals you receive with your new MINI (including the IPod Interface manual).

I guess I would have found it eventually ..... ?

thanks again! duh

It's in my manual. Page 72. There's even a picture, labeled: "Storage compartment on the front passenger side*"

checked page 72 of my manual and it DOES show how to open the glove compartment, but not the 'secret compartment'. So, as far as their manual goes, it's still a secret!!

That's why I only showed the photograph of the open secret compartment. You have to go to the Owner's Lounge to get the secret handshake needed to open it.

Do you know when your mini was built ?
I know there was talk of them doing away with the secret compartment due to it being a source of rattles. It might have been removed from the manual at some point. I'm just hoping my '08 shows up with it still there & fully functional.

So there are different manuals. In my paper manual, the glove compartment instructions start on page 72, end on 73. The "Storage Compartment" is on page 74 with picture and instructions... The downloadable PDF manual has the "Storage Compartment" on 72.
So it's a secret if you don't own a mini or don't read the manual in the glove box, or read this forum...

You shouldn't be worried, in all likelihood it will be present and fully functional. Most of the issues regarding rattles were ironed out. In fact, MINI owners with a secret compartment which is sealed up (they were never done away with, just permanently closed) have had a fully functional compartment put in. without their even asking, upon bring their MINI in for service. It was only relatively early build weeks which 'didn't have' the compartment.

Congrats on your MINI's imminent arrival!!!
