Need advice on JCW S purchase
Need advice on JCW S purchase
Hi all, I've been lurking for awhile (as I am not a MINI owner yet) and this is my first post. Not sure if I should have posted in the Marketplace, as that seems to be for actual selling/buying.
I hope it's okay to ask for buying advice here?
I'm considering the purchase of a 2006 Cooper S with factory installed JCW kit and brakes. It has the Sports package (not JCW suspension). It also has the chrono package (which I love), but doesn't have any other upgrades. Standard AC and stereo, etc.
It has 17,500 miles on it and is super-immaculate-clean. Not a scratch, ding or chip, and clean title.
I've been watching the prices in the Marketplace section and online for a few months, but I'm not sure where this MINI should sit in the range. Everything else I look at seems to have tons of interior/electronic upgrades. How much does that effect value?
I'm offering $23,500 on it. Seems like a great deal to me. Any advice?
Sorry if this isn't the right place to ask for this kind of advice. I just want my MINI!

While blue book values seem to be too high, edmunds.com estimates appear to be closer to reality. Have you ran an estimate through that site?

Thanks for the fast feedback!
I tried edmunds, but the selectable options don't cover the JCW kit unless it is the GP... So still kind of stuck on where this should price out. KBB does seem very high, but at least the site lets me choose the options that are specific to this MINI.
Forgot to mention it does have the sports suspension and LSD.
Thanks!

all '06 cars w/ jcw kit from the factory have lsd; all r53 mcs have sport suspension
i think 23.5 is a fair price. i like 'em simple and basic so i like the fact that it doesn't have a bunch of options, but that's also one of the reasons most other jcw's you see are priced higher...'cuz they're optioned up. kbb is somewhat useless, edmunds is more realistic, as someone else said. maybe keep in mind that jcw kit is $~6k option when new so you can tack on a fraction of that to the edmunds' price to get a good gauge. 17.5k miles can be slightly high depending on when he bought the car, but as long as it's in good shape and well taken care of, mileage is not an issue (unless it is to you). i'd say it's a decent buy

Need advice on JCW S purchase
For a JCW with the Crono package to me 23,500 seems a bit high. I think 22,00.00, I agree with the post by pl4ypl4y, which is 75% of new selling price, is more in line with real world re-sale values.
The basic car in '06 was 20,900
the JCW package was 6,300
the chrono, not sure, was 250
if you have web spokes add 600
if you have metallic paint add 450
add the destination charge of 550
for a total of, without tax, 29,050.00
What ever price you pay is not important. Getting what you want for a price you feel is fair is what counts.
Buy the car, enjoy the ride. and yes, welcome to the Mini community!
Hope this helps...
