I apologize in advance for such a silly post, but I have to place my order in today so that I get a December production slot and I cannot seem to decide between these two colors:

Laser Blue Black Roof/Stripes or White Roof/Stripes (wife thinks white is too smurfy)
Looks great, costs $500 more and is quite common.

Mellow Yellow Black Roof/Stripes:
$500 cheaper, not common, very aggressive, but can one really live day to day with such an aggressive color? Few cars can get away with yellow and I don't want to get this and then a week later feel weird about it.

Please help me decide.

 

We debated laser blue, british racing green, and mellow yellow before going with MY. The way we saw things, the MINI is a "Look at me" car, and as such it deserves a "Look at me" color. My friends are going to crap when they see me drive up in it the first time (I'm not a "look at me" kind of guy). We decided the blue and the green were just a bit too subtle (and common, in the case of the laser blue) for the MINIs styling. YMMV.

I have Liquid Yellow/black roof and love it. Mellow yellow on the other hand...it just doesn't have the impact.
If I were to buy a new MINI, It would be Laser Blue. I may even paint my RoadRunner that color.

So the question is if you want a more subdued, classy MINI or a fun, in-yo-face MINI...to me it comes down to simply that. Mellow Yellow is like a happy ray of sunshine coming down the street. LB has a more sultry, especially w/ a dark roof.

I had/have an Indi Blue/White Cooper and so feel like I've done the "classic-look" thing. Therefore, I'd personally go with Mellow Yellow in a heartbeat (if it weren't for Oxygen Blue)!!

 

Laser blue, without a doubt (unless you'd consider Chili Red). I liked the Liquid Yellow, but just can't warm up to the Mellow Yellow. Always reminds me of a taxi.

 

I've never seen a color split more well defined along gender lines than Liquid Yellow vs. Mellow Yellow. I (male) cannot *stand* the way the LY looks, yet I don't know that I've heard of any females who speak in favor of MY. Too funny.

We have the Mellow Yellow, next one will be Laser Blue

 

I'm personally very partial to Laser Blue, HOWEVER - I usually like my car to be somewhat uncommon, so if LB was common where I lived, I would have probably gone for yellow... (nah I probably would have gotten LB anyway )

 

If i was to do it again, I would definitely have gone laser blue (but with white).

 

My wife and I were both really big liquid yellow fans, but neither of us really likes mellow yellow. It is too "school bus" yellow for us.

Laser blue/white or BRG/white both are great options, though.

 

I vote for Laser Blue. Either Black or white roof looks nice.

 

Our MY/B is gonna arrive in the next few weeks. Since it will be a "fun" car for us we wanted to keep it fun with mellow yellow. All the other colors are a little boring and there are just too many reds on the road.

I come before you without bias , go Laser Blue with a white roof. Actually, I did wrassle with white vs black roof before finally deciding on white; both are great.

 

I love the MY but then again I like non-metalic paint jobs.

 

Well my first choice was Laser Blue, but since this was the wife's turn to choose she went with Mello Yellow.

I did have a funny moment over the holidays as my nephew an old DBZ fan made the comment, " Cool your Mini has gone Super Saiyan!"

I now call it Super Saiyan Yellow forget the Mellow!

One other thing, I've had about two dozen comments alluding to the fact, drivers on the road take notice of the car because of its color!

Go Super Saiyan Yellow!

It is always fun to see how different people think. I always thought the Liquid Yellow was not "school bus" yellow enough and was pleased to see MY even if I am unlikely to order it.

 

Well...that's a tough one since it's such a personal choice. I tend to lean towards the Blue myself...good luck with the decision!!!

My choice would be blue... I agree, the yellow has too much red in it (school bus).

 

That doesn't always hold. Like you, I don't care for liquid yellow. And I wouldn't have ordered mellow if I had to get it all one color. I love the contrast between the yellow and the jacket, umm, I mean the black roof.

I was waffling between mellow yellow and lightning blue and had an old girlfriend suggest the yellow. Even in bleak, nine months of gray sky Oregon, she said I would carry sunshine with me everywhere I went.

I find it interesting that other posters see it as an out-there, aggressive, look-at-me color. I haven't ever considered it that. And haven't had anyone who has seen it react that way.
