R56 Changed my Colorline Dash!!!
Changed my Colorline Dash!!!
OK so I finally found some paint in the right color, Yellow! Its Duplicolor Vinyl and Dash paint.
It took me 2 1/2 hours to get the darn dash pieces apart. What a pain I thought It was going to be easy I mean the passanger side piece wa sbut the drivers 2 pieces what a pain in the A**. Anyhow after pulling a piece out bc I was frustrated I finally got all of them out.
By the way the center console piece around the speedo I still cant figure out what is holding it to the dash. It's stuck to the dash up on top by the hazard flasher I dont see a screw or anything I even took out the vent grill on top to see, but nothing. I wonder if its held on by just a clip and if you pull hard enough it will come out, I just didnt want to break it. :impatient
After several coats of the paint there coming out really well. It looks stock. paint has alot of bonding agents in it and it wont crack peel or fade. You can even still see the the texture of the origional pieces.
Here are some photos. http://www.flickr.com/photos/1240578...57603200730379

Enjoy and if you want to attempt this feel free to post any questions. I will do my best
And I will get pics up once I reattach.

Can't wait to see the finished product. Really looks good so far. Good to know, too, that if I don't like my interior, I could "upgrade" colors myself. Hopefully you'll take lots of photos and give lots of advice for folks who'd want to follow in your footsteps!

You guys might want to look into SEMA paint. Its only at professional auto paint stores but its what all uphostery shops use. Its flexible paint so it will never crack. It comes in a huge selection of colors to match interiors.
The duplicolor paint I used is also made for Fabric as well. But I'm not going to attempt that on my Mini. Like NUI said the paint I used is also very flexable paint so it wont crack, but I'm not worried about that on the dash.
Going to go out now and finish putting my dash together....
It came out well. I used a whole can because I put lots of light coats on, recommended. It has a nice suttle gleam to it not glossy at all. In person its not the exact color as the exterior Mellow Yellow but Im not sure if the OEM color is either.

I looked at the Consumer Reports video and the interior yellow is bright. It looks really good for not getting it from the factory or having it re-vinyled.
I am going to leave the armrests on the door dark grey. I think it will be too much yellow if I did paint them.

Looks great! Thanks so much for sharing this with us. Your color looks just like the interior yellow color available at time of purchase (which does not match the exterior Mellow Yellow). If the door handles had also been painted, I'd never have known this wasn't factory!
