Hey Randy, I was curious if you have ever toyed with the idea of including a badge with your performance packages? An MMS badge or something similar and better looking than the JCW badge (which looks like garbage IMHO).

What do others think?

This idea's already been "in the cooker" for a bit now. Randy was quite inspired after seeing my improptu MINI-Motorsport badging on my intercooler cover. The talk for the real deal, however, was to replace the "MINI" on the valve cover with a MINI-Motorsport one.

Here's mine:

Funny, I just sent Randy email with the same suggestion yesterday!

Great minds think alike

That's a great idea! I would think that you would want to introduce a points system similar Dinan. That way, you could separate the posers from those of us that are willing to drop some coin for some extra fun.
Go for it.

That's really funny - I'm working hard on that right now.

This is what's in the cooker:

A badge for anyone that has had the parts installed or purchased from me to include at least the pulley and intake or pulley and ECU (it has to be fast!), and I'm thinking of even limiting it to at least intake, ECU and pulley.

The badge will replace the valve cover "MINI" badge with a "MOTORSPORT" badge that includes an R package serial number. These numbers will be in chronological order (I believe we are up to 80 now) and retrofitted to all customers with the minimum package. The R is for Randy (at another's suggestion). We (Ricardo has been helping me on this) already have some pretty firmed up ideas.

As soon as the ideas are up and running, I'll post them here for input. Feel free to provide any input beforehand as well.

As a reminder, still not up on the website, are the newest and greatest packages - Engine, Suspension, and Braking. There are Stage 1 (200 hp) and 2 (230 hp) engine packages, Stage 1, 2, and 3 suspension packages, and Stage 1 and 2 brake packages. We always prefer to make some sort of custom package out of these for your particular car, but for some reason, people really dig packages. Only the Engine packages or a combination of engine work and the other packages would get the badge - in other words, if you just upgrade the suspension for example, no go for the badge.

Great minds really do think alike.

Randy

I'm definitely interested. Will have to see how the packages work out with the other things I already have bought from Randy. Time to get another pulley party going- this time in Hawaii. Bring your badges- great idea.

Hey Randy,

I work in private label, and I own my company, I can get something really professionally looking not that JCW badge. I am talking about something metal that a customer actually would love to have in the car.
I will get a couple ideas and send it to you.
This is what one if the things I do for a living, and my other one being motoring, I guess I can help.

Yeah, I'd like a rear hatch badge addition to the valve cover. Something that really shows some style compared to the JCW hatch badge.

The key is to keep it super simple

Count me in as well, great idea! After mid-July, I will have intake, swaybar, H Sports springs, pulley and ECU, all from Randy.

P.S. I just had the swaybar and H Sports installed today. Truly remarkable upgrade! Thanks Randy for recommending this to me. As I have heard from others, "the car feels like it drives from the center". Awesome and very noticeable improvement. T minus 15 days and counting for the pulley and ECU.

Julian,
Randy has an awful lot of projects on his plate right now. He and I have been working on this project for a while,
and because he has so much going on, I have been managing this one. Randy is in total control and makes all final
decisions. If you would like to private mail me, then we can discuss how you might help.
Regards,
Ricardo

Ric,
I like the way you put it, "Randy Webb Motorsport Equipped." What do other MCO'ers think? It has a nice ring to it.

Simple is definitely better! The JCW badge has too much going on. I'm surprised that MINI even let that out the door before letting their PR/Marketing people have their way with it.

Randy,

Would you explain the differences between the Stage 1, 2 and 3 suspension packages and the Stage 1 and 2 brake packages?

Thanks,

Sure Lloyd. You have the Stage 2 kit. That is the Konis, the H-sport springs and a rear bar.

Stage 1 is the springs and rear bar.

Stage 2.5 is the coilovers (KW V1 or LEDA stage 1) and the rear bar.

Stage 3 is the coilovers (KW V2 or LEDA stage 2) and the rear bar.

There of course could be a Stage 4 with the remote reservoir coilovers and bushings and a rear bar, but that is about $4500.

Hope that helps!

Randy

PS - How many times have I told you to be happy with what you have!

A simple and clean looking badge is generally so much nicer IMO (I think that the majority here agree).

I had a vision last night after looking at this thread. Having owned a BMW "M" series before, I've always thought that they had a very classy/cool badge with the tricolor stripes before the ///M.

Maybe something similar, to pay a small but of tribute and associate with our German parents, would certainly be associating with a good name! You'd have to change the colors and letters in order to bypass any Trademark issues, but it would look fantastic in my opinion. //MM or //RMM or //RW

(Note that Audi has a similar badge for their "S" series).

Anyway just a thought.

I agree that the JCW badging looks like it was done by a slow 12 year old.

We were thinking a simple "R" in place of the S, but I was worried about that looking "ricey" - not that there's anything wrong with that.

I was also given the idea of something in the same font as the "Cooper" on the back in half size that says "motorsport". We could combine the two and have a nice chrome "motorsport" under the "Cooper" and then an "R" in place of the "S".

The R is still for Randy, so maybe knowing that would take the Honda out of it, no?

Randy, be sure to bring those badges to Phoenix in November.

My opinion, when you said R, I thought of the R from Type R or every other
Japan made tuner. I don't like the R idea that much.

But whatever it is, I will go for it.

It would ba an honor to have such a badge on my MINI.

IDEA 1: What about having an "RW" badge next to the COOPER badge?

IDEA 2: What about a two badge addition. Remove the "S" in Cooper S. Then have a MINI badge to go above the COOPER badge, and a MOTORSPORT badge to go under the COOPER.

I have always been a big fan of the RSR designation myself. Goes back to porsche roots. How about RSM as another option.
