Will 17X8 Motegi Wheels work?

Need expert advice. Found new Motegi Traklite 2 wheels but the only size is 17 X 8. They have a +42 offset and backside of 6 1/8.

Checked 18" JCW wheels and even these are 7" wide. Would think tire size would be important consideration. With an 8" width could probably run 225's on these rims but section width of the tire would be approaching 9".

How can I assure myself that these will work?

Does anyone run this wide a tire? Any issues?

Car is at stock height but planning to lower with H & R springs. Will this create a problem?

Thanks for your help.

You may want to consider spacers but they might not be necessary. As for the drop, with the 225 you may rub, but who knows... Not too many people on here run wheels wider than 7.5" but I'm sure Rally will chime in as he knows his shyt...

I'm getting a set for the R56, so when they get here I'll try one on the R53. I'm assuming they are going to rub like crazy in the smaller wheelwell.

Don't know about your offset. This guy has 17x8.5 RH AQ Maxilite As with an effective offset of ET35, albeit with the wrong size tires. Altogether far from an optimal solution, but they look great on the car and contact is supposedly under control. This other guy is buying the exact same wheels and the same size tires.

Thus it would seem that it is possible to get 17x8s on the car with the correct offset--whatever that is.

if you have stock suspension, 17x8ET42 is about perfect. You need to be careful with tire size though. Also, coilovers make fitment tougher

Do a search for 235/40/17. There is somebody here who runs/ did run that wheel and tire combination.

I had them in 15". So soft, the car would shimmy sideways when closing the doors. They road like butter, but absolutely no steering response, which was quite upsetting. I should have kept the RG-F, but put proper rubber on them. Oh well....hindsight = 20/20. They wouldn't have cleared my brakes anyways
