The only time the following procedure should be performed on a vehicle still under Full Maintenance coverage would be when an owner chose to change their own oil on a SCHEDULED oil service. Doing it at any other time during this coverage will PUSH OUT the next service! If your vehicle is out of warantee this doesn't matter.

To reset the service interval indicator:

1. push trip button
2. turn ignition key to position 1 and "15A" will appear to left of mileage
3. release trip button and wait 3 seconds
4. push trip button and wait (5 - 8 seconds) for "RST" to appear in left corner
5. release trip button
6. push trip button
7. "15000" [or kilometer equivalent] will appear as new service interval
8. release trip button
9. The miles [or kilometers] until next service will now count down from the reset interval.

That proceedure might be different dependent on which year your MINI is. I am not 100% sure, but there are some computer/trip function differences in the model years.

I wan't aware of the differences, my bad. That should work for an '05/'06.

I have printed this out and I'm going to keep it in the glovebox until I change the oil next. EVERYTIME we do it we can never remember and have to jerk around with it for 10 minutes. By the time we get to the next car, we forgot what we did so we spend another 10 minutes messing with it.

This sounds about right for an '04

yeah it really is slightly different on different years. i have an '04 and i tried the procedure the first time i changed my oil and it wouldn't work. it's not that different tho, 'cuz i stumbled around with multiple attempts and finally got it to reset but unfortunately didn't know precisely what i did differently. anyone knows different procedures for earlier cars please post, would much appreciate. mine's a 9/03 build

you have an '03? it opens up. you might need a sharp edge and some prying, but it opens up. the owner's manual also tells you kinda how to do it

'05+ keys recharge in the ignition

I've an 02 and this proceedure works . but . the timing is quirky ... usually takes me 3 or 4 tries for it to 'take' .... not only on my car but on several others (offvarious years) that I've done when teaching "MINI oil change 101"

biggest problem is the display prompts changed from year to year... Ignore the "word" ... when the display changes go to the next step....

I've got it taped to the inside cover of my Haynes..... How come a Bentley owner hasn't posted the 110% answer?

I do own a Bentley manual. But as you said, this procedure varies depending upon the year of manufacture.

I've never reset mine. The car's computer doesn't seem to act up, dispite being something like -25000 due for service. I do all maintanence myself. Next up is trans fluid and fuel filter. The car is at about 37k.

But it is nice to let the computer track the interval to a degree. I'm old school and like to change the oil more often than 15,000 miles.

I just did my oil and used the reset instructions posted here. It worked just fine...the only thing I noticed was instead of 15A....I had 51A....don't know if that makes any difference. Mine reset to 15500 miles.
