Navigation & Audio DPSM and Aux In Question
DPSM and Aux In Question
I just had the DPSM installed a couple of weeks back. I need my aux in installed for my ipod but there are at least two wires blocking that port on my radio. Any ideas what this is?
I found this thread in a search. The wires mentioned are from a NAV unit. I do not have NAV.

I think the aux uses two pins in its connector. Are those exact two pins occupied (same positions) in your current connector? If not, just transfer them over.
I believe aux input became standard starting in late 2006. Are you sure you don't already have one in your glovebox?

I wish! I am real sure about that one....On the wife's 2006 Honda Civic she has a standard aux in on the dash and we use it for Sirius sat in.....the ipod uses a Honda oem link and it works pretty good....
To clarify, did you mean that:
Since you don't have Nav (and if you also don't have factory bluetooth), I suggest unplugging the 12-pin connector, and plugging in the aux input's connector into where it's normally supposed to go. Then you'll get a working aux input, and if you lose sound from another source, it would indicate what the problem is.
Also this may not directly address your question, but your signature lists DICE. I thought that DICE has its own aux input. Couldn't you use that instead of the OEM aux input? For that matter, why use aux input for iPod if you have the DICE adapter?
- There is already a connector at the head unit where the aux input is supposed to plug in, and
- You cannot transfer the pins from the aux connector to the other connector (as described in Greatbear's post), because the pin positions are already occupied.

I don't know if they ever made it standard on the coupes, though.

I do have a dice module, in fact I have had 5 and two cables installed!!!And it still does not work but I will leave that out of this discussion. I am working with those folks to try to determine why I am having a problem. That is a separate issue that may be linked to my dpsm install. I am continuing to work with Dice but at the moment I dont have a functioning Dice unit. They are great on customer service and I only have good things to say about EAS and Dice.. Meanwhile I want my aux in to work as I have a massive ipod collection of music and want to use it. And yes I have AUX as a mode option. All of my modes are functioning properly. Sounds like the next step is to pull the plug and check the positions of those wires...I am open to hear all ideas on this one....
It sounds to me like you have the same issue I had after I installed my DPSM except my issue was with my blitzsafe and XM set-up. The connectors in the original wiring loom that operate these devices must be plugged into the DPSM connector at the head unit to operate properly. They cannot reside on what was the connector to the head unit once the DPSM cabeling was installed. These items (AUX and SAT) will show up as you cycle through the mode button on the radio but you will not have any audio if they are not connected to the head unit.
As best as I can tell from your description, you need to remove these connectors from the origial connector and plug them into their proper location in the wiring loom/connector that connects to the head unit.
Since I installed my own DPSM and had this exact issue, this is the solution I used. Wishing you much luck and working audio!

That's very interesting. It indicates that the headunit detects something on the aux input, and the aux pins are probably occupied in the connector. AUX mode normally won't show up if nothing is installed (the aux cable has a simple resistor/capacitor circuit that the headunit can detect).
I wonder if that connector came from DICE. Did you install the DICE yourself?
I think the simplest way to get your aux input working is to plug in the aux cable where it's supposed to go (unplug whatever is already there). That 12-pin connector seems to be used only as headunit inputs for Nav, bluetooth, and aux. If you lose some other function as a result, it would be good information to help determine what is going on, and you can put the connector back to the way it was.

The Dice is connected to the changer control pass through on my OEM Sirius unit. The cable runs down the drivers side of my car to the front where the Dice module is located under my parcel shelf.
Here's a diagram from MINI2. Aux input uses connector C, pins 3, 4, and 10. (on this chart they are labelled TV L+, TV R+, TV L/R-). If the car does not have Nav or factory bluetooth, I have no idea what could be already connected there.
Thanks all for the feedback and follow-up.
Over the last several days (since my DPSM install) both my passenger side door speakers started getting weaker in volume. This morning they were not functioning!
So rather than try to troubleshoot this whole aux problem I made an appointment with the dealer to have this speaker failure checked out. I don't have pictures of the wires on the back of the radio as I was looking at them via the side of the parcel shelf opening. I was going to snap the aux in until I saw the wires in the way...The radio harness is so tight back there I am not taking that radio out...with this new speaker problem brewing I don't want to risk a warranty problem. I plan to get the speaker situation checked and have my aux input stuck in there at the same time. I hope to find out what those wires are after they install the aux in....My audio karma is feeling kind of low right now.....
