Add OEM SIRIUS to Nav-equipped 07 Cooper S?

Hello all!! I just picked up my used 07 Copper S (3k miles). It has the Nav with Hi-Fi audio option. It did not come with Sirius (guess was not available at the time). Now when I asked the dealer if they could install it they said no. Now does this mean not at this time? I checked under the passenger seat and I saw the pink smb connector there. So it looks like its pre-wired for the sirius . Thanks for any help

You probably should have asked the dealer that question.

My car was built in early March, before the Sirius unit was available. Mini kept pushing the availability date back, saying there was a licensing issue.

I recently purchased the Sirius unit from Classic Mini in Ohio, which offers a NAM discount. I made arrangements with Rasmussen in Portland to install it. It's going to be the first of November before I can get it up there. One of their SAs told me they haven't installed a Sirius unit for the R56 yet. And that may explain why your dealer wouldn't offer to do it. They may just not be comfortable doing it if they haven't had any experience with the unit for the new model.

Good luck.

It's 65-11-0-432-322 and is called the Sirius Retrofit kit.

I have the Sirius dealer-installed with the Nav kit. It's pretty great.

It adds a new input/source in the Entertainment menu, so it's AM/FM/SAT/CD/AUX now.

SAT has subheadings for Genre, all channels, and 12 presets.

Display shows the current track playing (title and artist).

Sound quality is quite good.

I have the iPod interface and the Sirius installed, and love that I can leave the bottom of the center column uncluttered by anything. Yet, more entertainment options than I know what to do with. Bring on the road trips!

Anyway, in short, it's a nice solution. The background of the Sat options page even has the Sirius logo in place of the AM/FM radio or CD that kinda acts as a background for the other inputs. The ironic part is the iPod interface has a CD for a background, since it runs through the CD changer, and the AUX page has an iPod on it!

I spoke to the service manager and he said that the part is not available for for dealer install yet as an option. He could not give an ETA on when it will be...this sucks

I would look elsewhere then, or ask why it is available to some dealerships and not to others. I got my work done at Downtown Mini in Orlando, and while they're good, I don't think they do any sort of strongarming to get their parts. :-) Good luck. Don't know where you're from, but if there are other dealerships within a 100 miles, I'd give them a call and see what they say, then get back to your dealer and (if the news is good) let him know that there are others close enough to get it done there, so he best do his homework or you'll shop elsewhere.

And... I believe it includes one year of fee Sirius service as well (as all new BMW Sirius receivers do). Too bad it's not a lifetime subscription like the factory installed version is. I guess that's why it's cheaper though (factory installed option is currently $950 stand-alone or $1,400 as part of the full Hi-Fi/HD/Sirius radio package).

Definitely available. My Mini is at the dealer right now having Sirius installed. Took the dealer just shy of a week to get the parts in. When they ordered it the parts guy said he was only showing a handfull of them in the country.

I got the equipment for $500 and 1.5 hours of labor - total price of $635.00 after much negotiating. They wanted to charge the full price of $599 plus 1.5 hours labor.

Apparently cars prior to a certain build date were not pre-wired for Sirius, so there maybe be additional hardware/install costs with those. Mine was built the first week of March and had it ready-to-go, just needed the Sirius module popped in and a software update. Not bad. I'm not sure if the pre-wiring was always standard, or if they really started a ways into the build process.

Yes, I agree. Even something as simple as updating the nav firmware now requires a trip to the dealer. One step forward, two steps backward I guess.

For those of us that do not have NAV, from what I've read the SAT hookup does not need a flash update. The NAV does. The SAT unit is supposedly a plug and play unit. Not sure if this is true. Thats why I would like to see someone with the unit as to get picture of all the connections. Anyone out there with a unit in there hands before install willing to take some pics?

I can't tell you whether it's plug and play, but here's a photo of the backside.
