picked up the new car

well last night the wife and i went to pick up our new family member.

its a new '08 Mini Cooper S (6spd, LSD, cold pack, and multi wheel)

the little bugger is a blast to drive. it no STi but its so much fun around the turns (i have not gone to WOT or over 4k rpms yet cause i want to brake it in)

as for it being FWD i was very impressed with the very little understeer that the car has.

all in all its one awsome car and i know we are going to love it.

Congrats on the obtainment.

First time I've seen a chili red convertible with white stripes...definitely looks different.

Nice one!!!

Just throw a rear sway bar on and you'll be even more impressed.

Congrats...

thanks for all the nice input.

i did steal it from the wife an hour ago to just tool around and it's a blast. i'm really looking forward to see what it can do after its broken in. i already have my hands on a set of r-comps. i still can't get over the fact that for a FWD it handles so well. (the car brings back memories of my MK1 GTi, i still miss that little guy, one day i'll have another one)

can you guys beleive this B.S, so we have a one car garage, and my STi (my baby) always lived in it. well now the wife took my garage and kicked my car outside WTF. this is total B.S. I WANT MY GARAGE BACK !!!! (ok thats just me venting thanks for listening)

I built on an extra two garages when I bought my house...sounds like you need to do the same.

But for reference...while the MINI > MS6GT, she's also > STI (sorry to tell ya). You'll understand in a few weeks...there's more than straight line performance and AWD. Took me about that long anyway

put the crack pipe down an STi will run circle on a mini around the track.

i eat up minis at the local Autox's all the time (we are talking both Raw and PAX times)

i don't want to turn this into a bashing mini or subaru thread. but the STi is a hands down much better all around performer then the mini will ever be. major there are limitation to the platform.

this is going to go no where cause we are comparing apples and oranges.

if you are going to bash my sti please be informed before you do so, for example at least bash it for the low quality interior dash parts and cheap *** paint.

but you don't buy an STi to look good. well at least i did not.

and yes Wife > STi but STi > mini cooper s, but if the wife wants the cabrio in the garage then i guess she wins for now

as for adding to the garage i can't cause of the home owners comunity.

Looking at the pics brings a visceral response that emerges from my lips ...a word that bears the full weight of the impression it is intended to convey, a word that I used frequently as a teenager. And that word is ...totally BITCHEN dude!

Good goin'

That is one beautiful MINI. Love the color.
I almost got that color but I would have ordered it until I saw the one I bought on the showroom floor.
I did not want to wait.
Chili Red is definitely a classic look.
Good luck and congrats.

Not going to bash...you're still in the denial stage.

In a few days you'll hit anger, followed by depression, and eventually will hit acceptance.

The convertible is not a track car, I've run AutoX for years now...if you run, you should know that it's more driver than car, as I've been beat by Honda's from different classes...beaten Vettes and Vipers. I'm also running low 13's in the Mazda. I've owned some pretty decent enthusiats cars over the years...I'm telling you, this one has them beat. You'll catch on eventually. Give it about two weeks...when you've had 10X the compliments on this car than any other you've owned. I can't even take a trip to the gas station without someone wanting to talk about the car...

you still don't get it they are apples and oranges.

like today i drove the car (mini s) to get the clear bra installed.

i came to the conclusion that i'm not really going to be driving it that much. i like the rawness of the STi.

the mini yes handles good but is numb feeling same goes for the steering and brakes. as a daily car its perfect. the car is sporty but its not a performer. i would rate the mini better then a MK5 GTi but below a miata (yes i said miata go drive one)

if i had to choose between the two cars for a track event i would take the STi.

OK as about low 13 sec in a mazda what does that refer to ????

Do you run Nation SCCA autox events ? or State Championships ?

if you know anything about autox you would have noticed it said PAX times.

sorry i did not mention that when i was comparing my times to other cars it was at national/state events. (sorry guy i'm not a newbie at autox)

don't get me wrong the mini is awsome. it does exactly every thing we need it to do. (and the build quality is top notch , yes i can be a dash stroker at heart)

have you even driven an STi ? (or let alone some other cars like ; EVO, S2k, M3)

BTW, why do you care what people at stoplights say, you buy a car for yourself to enjoy, not for others to admire.
