I like oranges better than apples

I never understood why people had so much trouble comparing them.

Last time I was at the Dragon, I ate up every other car there (Corvettes, Eclipses, VWs, Miatas) ... except an STi. He made distance on me coming out of every turn. I could get some of it back before the next turn as he had to brake much earlier, but lost it again on exit since he could get on the gas sooner with the AWD. The STi is a wonderful beast of a car.

Don't discount the MCS though. It won't have the flat-out acceleration of a lot of other true sports cars, but it's handling makes it a definite performer. With someone behind the wheel who knows the car and can read its limits, it can definitely surprise a lot of "performers" on the track. We do so at the PBOC track days every time we show up. It will make more sense when you are out of your break-in period and can be high in the powerband through a turn.

Your cabrio is a beauty! I wish mine looked that clean still. I think I'll go wash it now.

You should go introduce yourself at Sunshine MINIs!

Really nice! I am really starting to love white wheels on the right MINI, and yours is definitely one of them.

Uh oh, the obsession has begun! If you are looking for aftermarket stuff, be sure to check out Pete's selection at Minspeed. He has a great selection and is often much cheaper than the other guys. He's an absolute pleasure to work with and is a true asset to the MINI community. For you, he's probably about a 20 minute drive! It's a good thing I don't live that close, or I probably wouldn't have any cash left for eating.

Strange though about the 08...Mine is an 07 and I thought all S models came with the HID??? Also, the climate control buttons are different in mine...did they go back to the turn-style ***** instead of actual buttons?

not to challenge the status of the car of course....just curious

Nope, not all S come with HID. It's an option . . . or part of the Sports package. The automatic AC controls you have, Sidewalker, are also an option (or part of premium package, I believe). Both of these options are standard in the Sidewalk package, but not in other MCSc.

Oh...well I guess that makes sense...thanks for clarifying! Guess I never knew that cause I didn't order mine...just saw it on the floor and had to have it!

The sidewalk option is only available with the premium and sport packages, which is why yours had the xenons (sport) & automatic AC (premium). The Sidewalk option includes: the wheels, seats, trim on the doors/dash and steering wheel.

Well I knew about the wheels, and interior accents of course...those are the things that sold me on the car.

I just didn't know the other package breakdowns...(sport, prem, etc...) I guess I could go back and read the sticker!

I had always associated the lack of HID 'projectors' to that of a nonHID or an older model. My dad had 3 coopers before I got mine, and the first two had HID, just not the modern style projectors. My mistake.

I can't buy a loaf of bread without researching the crap out of it

Actually, I decided to buy Nilla this past July but had to wait until the middle of October for money in a CD to mature. I spent the time educating myself on every option/price, test driving, etc. It got to the point where I had to set up a spreadsheet of options to track them. Of course it goes without saying that I spent many a day and night on NAM. By the time I bought the car I knew more about it than my MA...which he pointed out to me.

One of the first test drives I had was in your car. I love the seats and wheels. Well worth the $1000 IMHO. I ended up not going that route because I decided that I didn't want the H/K upgrade which meant no Premium Package and therefore, no Sidewalk.

I definitely hear ya on the research...however I'm not as obsessive about it (NOT that that's a bad thing! ) But, after my dad having 3 Minis over the last few years, I was fairly familiar with the car, and loved it...always enjoyed motoring when I was visiting the folks!

I've never really put that much thought or research into a car before I bought it...the only exception being, when I got my S2000 the year it came to the US. (I had one of the first 3 in DFW) The Mini is my 10th car, and 6th brand new one. In the past, if I see something I like appearance wise, like the way it drives, and do my research on pricing, then I will go for it. Much more of an impulse buyer than a proper shopper. That's how I ended up with the 99 Cobra Mustang I bought right off the showroom floor -- that I ended up HATING after 3 months of owning it. OOPS So, I can't say that I haven't ended up in trouble after an impulse buy.

And FYI...the Sidewalk package is $4k, not 1...and worth every penny!

OH..and sorry to have hijacked this thread...

The $4000, includes $1500 for the premium and $1500 for the sport packages.

Or better yet, get Ian's auto-up circuit with the garage door opener power feed and you can stash everything behind the switch box . . . and operate it with your door unlock button like I do.

I'd love to add one of these to my car, but am concerned that it will void the warranty if I run into any electrical problems.
