Brake Pad Warning Light Stays On

I recently had the brake pads replaced on my 2003 Mini.
The "Brake Pad Warning Light" is staying on constantly.
How do I get it off?

If you wore through the sensor ... the light will be on.
If the pad is to low the wire in the "sensor / pick up" breaks contact (opens the circut)
You will need to replace the sensor. It clips in the pad and has about 18" of wire and a connector.

only 1 on the front and 1 on the rear.

Not URGENT as you know the pads (front and rear are good ... right?)

Or you could cut off the sensor end, bare the wires, twist them together, wrap them in electrical tape and zip tie the wire out of the way. just make sure you keep an eye on your pad wear.

Did you wash/detail the car recently? Maybe you knocked the wires loose.

The day I picked up my car the light was on and all they had to do was plug the sensor back in (so they said).

I had to replace the rear sensor & wire. If you think it's annoying, it's more annoying than you think. You could do this easily if you had three skinny tentacles (two to do the work & one to hold the flashlight) and at least one eye on a stalk. I eventually did it with two normal hands and a flashlight and some zipties and a razor blade, but it wasn't instant.

After the replacement, you have to turn the car on, wait a while, turn it off, and the light should go off. It's something like this anyway. Don't panic.

I had this same problem on our 04. Changed rear pads, changed the sensor and just zip-tied it up under the chassis (new pads didn't have a sensor provision in them). Still, the light wouldn't go off for nearly 2 months. Then I read about doing the ECU reset (or whatever it is) where you push the trip reset bottom on the cluster and then turn the key to run, and your readout on the cluster will say "test". I tried it and ding....light when off after about 1 minute of having the car started.

Once you replace the sensors, all you have to do is turn the key on, but NOT start the car and give it a minute. The light will go off.

Healey is right on with this...30 seconds in the "on" position and the light should go off. This final step is missing from the shop manual, and from many of the DIY posts on brakes.

ALso, I have not found replacing the sensor difficult at all (my rear sensor disintegrated when I removed it from the caliper), but do recommend either splicing the wires together or zip-tying the new new sensor up somewhere under the car so it never becomes an issue again.

As mentioned above, sounds like you need new pads. the part at the dealer is something like $20. The last two times it went on for me and it required a brake job, I just replaced it with the pads... Just incase I ever sold the car, I know the job was done right.

I have a 2007... How do I reset this one. If you put the key in and hit the start button without your foot on the brake then a plethora of things come up but it still shows minus miles on the pads. The light went out once then when we turned the key back on it came back on.. now what?
