Acceleration Pause

Does the break in period affect the pause in acceleration? Specifically, the hesitation in acceleration between the time you put your foot down and the time it takes to take off. Is that just my MINI? Is it also in the S? It bugs me when I want to pull out into traffic...and can make for a jerky take off.

Response time can be cut with the Sport Button. It is already a habit to push the button. I press start, hit the sport button, and grab the shifter.

I would also say that Percy adjust to my driving habits. After the wife drives for a few days Percy drives a bit different. Couple of starts and stops and it is back to my style.

I notice it a little with the auto trans. But as mentioned before, let the Sport button be your friend.

it could be the DSC kicking on. lots of 1st gen MINI's experienced this hesitation especially when taking off to make a left thru an intersection.

Leave the sport button on and it will make a difference when taking off.
However, I notice a brief hesitation at 3000 rpm when I am accelerating...especially in 2nd and 3rd gears.

it is caused by buy the throttle by wire system. This was my fist concern on my test drive, the sport button fixed it. If this sport button was not there i would never had gotten the car. That throttle delay is killer

just press the sprot button and it will go away.

I haven't felt it myself but all the dynos show a dip in torque right about there.

OP - you have stick or auto trans?

+1. It's ESPECIALLY pronounced with the auto trans but the sport button eliminates it. I'm pretty sure (on my MINI at least) that it's linked to the fact that with the sport button off the auto trans starts off in 2nd gear while with the sport button on it launches in 1st.

Ahh, that makes sense. Does the sport button eat up lots more gas?

There's a dip in the torque and hp curve at like 3000rpm cause of the ecu, that's the only thing I've noticed....we definitely need an ecu tune to get rid of that dip.

I am sure it does but not much obviously as I consistently get 32.X mpg mixed aggressive freeway merging almost every time. Only DSC does that not ASC? I think the device in action when taking off is ASC.

I personally only notice the power dip in 2nd and 3rd gears, and only when the car is cold. When accelerating in higher gears on the freeway, either it does not happen, or the higher gearing is muting the output of the engine where my butt can't tell anymore.

Again this is with the automatic, but I definitely recognize a marked decrease in fuel economy with the sport button on - 3-5mpg on average.

I don't believe that the sport button alters fuel econemy, I get 32-38mpg in my S. I just push the start button and go...the sport button comes on automaticly with my mod

I know the hesitation of which you speak. It was bad, but its been going away; I'm now up to about 880 miles on the odo. It could also be that I'm getting more used to the throttle...

It is not a drop in power, it is a delay on the throttle. It is only like 1/2 a second or less without the sport button on..but it is clearly there if you shift quick.

This is so strange, I really noticed this on the test drive (MCSa) and I actually wondered if my foot was positioned wrong on the gas pedal or something weird like that!!! I'm picking up my car in a few hours and I will be on the lookout for this.

I've had the pause occasionally at all different speeds ,almost like the the computer gets confused or something .It's a fraction of a second and has never put me in danger .

its not there if you give it the slightest bit of gas right before the green.
