My MINI - $35,345 Plus Tax & License - Uggg

After lurking for months... and building and re-building, I came up with "my" Mini. It will actually be for my wife, but I get to order it. She picked out the color and OK’ed the options.

I took the configuration to the local Mini dealer who always starts at $3000 over MSRP. I was able to show them that they had nearly $3400 profit in the car at MSRP. I also pointed out that I could drive an hour and order it for MSRP at another Mini dealer. This one is 10 minutes from my house though so I would rather buy it there. So, we’ll see. The sales manager was off today and will be back in tomorrow.

Tax and license is another $3209; gets me out the door at $38,554.00

Drive the hour to save the 3K, then bring it to your local dealer for service. Be sure to wave to the MA that lost the sale, every time you visit.

If this car is for your wife, do you really need the sport suspension?

You forgot the kitchen sink!

Seriously, nice spec. Congrats and enjoy! (If you can endure the wait)

I wouldn't pay a nickel over MSRP. Especially on a loaded $35k car!

Great build!

Edit: And I'd definitely go to the other dealer. Any dealer that sells above MSRP doesn't deserve your business, even if they do agree to remove the extra $3,000. Thats outrageous.

Don't even THINK about paying above MSRP. Think of how far the $3K you'll save can go....liiiike, to pay for a nice hotel near your NEW dealership, and a nice delivery day, and a wonderful drive back home, and the new baby's first mods!

There are many dealerships around the country that sell at MSRP and have great service. Sometimes, they will even dip below MSRP when the timing is right - a little bit...don't expect more than $500 - $1000 off.

Good luck! You've spec'd a gorgeous MINI.

That dealer is full of crap.... Go buy it from the other dealer and I'd beware when having it serviced by the one who starts out at $3000.00 over sticker..

I agree -- definitely buy it from the MSRP dealership. You have spec'd a beautiful MINI! Congrats and enjoy the process!

Good point. When I started dating my wife she had just bought a brand new 1973 240Z. Wow.... I think I just dated myself. Oh well.... 30+ years of marriage we still share the car bug.

Nice set of options. I assume you are using the packages to get better prices on some of the items, like DSC and 17" Crown Spokes. If not, forget the Crown Spokes and get lighter after-market wheels. 17" runflats with a sport suspension is going to be a bit harsh. Since your car will be coming with the new tire pressure sensors in the wheels, the non-runflat option isn't as easy. Quite a few of the track and autox folks opt for 16" wheels to reduce the unsprung weight. You might consider that option.

I've never understood the desire for the chromeline interior. Reflections of the sun in my eyes is not something I want while driving. Nor do I cherish reflections of the dash in the windows -- as some with the chromeline interior have reported.

$35+K and no Lounge leather seats!?.. Yup, they're bending you over..

There's plenty of profit for the dealer when selling at MSRP. No reason for the buyer to spend a dime over. Shop elsewhere.

$38,554.00 for an MCS, a car with a base price of $22,300 including D&H? Laughable.

No offense intended. My wife likes a smoother ride then I do. But the Standard Suspension with 17" run flats is more than stiff enough for me.

3k over MSRP is ludicrious and that dealer should be named and shamed.

Bob Smith in Calabasas (Northern part of Los Angeles). The MA is very nice and knows Minis.

Every Mini S on the lot has a $3000 mark up sticker on them. I have heard that they are coming down. They have to hit sticker or I will go to the other dealer.

As soon as I hear from them I will post the results.

So glad I don't live in CA. No one in NY/NJ marks up period.

I agree with the previous posts, don't support dealers that give mark ups if you can avoid it, even if they say they'll do it at MSRP unless it really benefits you. You can still have it serviced there, 10 min.'s from your house.

Remember to ask them what their "loaner" policy is before you go elsewhere though. If they do loaners, they may only offer it to minis purchased at the dealership. If that is the case AND they are willing to drop to MSRP, I would reluctantly buy from them.

I purchased from a dealer that adds a mark up but was willing to do MSRP. The only reason I went there was because they could have my mini to me three months sooner than the alternative. I don't have any service of warranty work done there now, it's all done at one closer to me. Unfortunately, I don't get a loaner car now.

Good luck! Nice mini!

PS I agree with Robin, I don't understand chrome inside, but to each their own...

Lounge leather was $800; not out of reach, I just didn't care for the white piping on the black seats.

I did, and you're right. They only offer loaners to customers who bought from them.
The Lounge Leather seat were a couple hundred dollars more... I just didn't care for the white piping.

You have soooo many dealership options in California. The bad news is...the one closest to you is bending you over. The good news is....there are many others that will fight to get your business.

Definitely do not buy from a mark-up dealer.

It says something about a business when they start a new relationship with a customer by making it clear that they will always take more from the customer than they deserve.

With that expensive MINI you are ordering, they should be tossing in some freebies, not taking you for a $3000 ride.
