Has anyone out there tried running 225/35 18's on an 8 inch wheel?
Clearance problems?

225/35-18 is a good size for 18x8 rims, your offset will be important to determine where the wheel sits in the wheel well and how close it might be to your suspension. If you have stock suspension you will have maximum clearance for wider tires like 225mm but if you lower your MINI you will have minimal clearance unless your offset is just right but that will vary with your suspension upgrades if any.

When your rim is only 1" wider than stock you get about 1/2" facing the inside and 1/2" facing the outside if you can reduce offset about 1/4" or about 6mm. So 17x7 rim with stock +48mm offset sits in the wheel well about where a 18x8 rim with +42mm offset will rest. More rear negative camber will help a little with clearance.

If I put the two wheels into a wheel calculator I get
the 18x8 rim with +42 offset is
18mm wider on the rim and is positioned 6mm (0.2") deeper into the wheel well.
Tire is about 20mm (0.8") wider and 1-2mm shorter than stock
The tire/wheel will be placed about 4mm closer to the suspension parts and 16mm (0.6") farther out of the wheel well.

225/35-18 is a popular size for 18" MINI wheels.
It fits rims 7.5-9" wide with perfect fit for 8" rim, 24.2" tire diameter is stock sized for good clearance. Exact tire size varies with each model tire
Section width 9"-9.1" (8.1" stock)
Tread width 7.7"-8.3" (7.2" stock)

 

Is the wheel fitment/offset the same the R56?

 

More or less the same, just watch out for the width of the tires rubbing if you choose a wheel with less offset beginning about +40mm.

Lower offset means the wheel is placed closer to the outside and a wider tire could hit the plastic wheel liner if the tire is taller than stock- 24.4".

18" wheels will clear the R56 JCW sized front brakes on the MCS. The larger wheel will make the brakes seem small.

 

I have 18x8 wheels now with a proper offset, and im going to be switching to 225's in the rear in the spring when i change over my suspension. As MiniHune stated, it can be done! I may have to do a little modifying of the rear arches but thats yet to be determined.

 

Any idea if this Sportmaxx wheel will allow a 225/25-18 tire on an 56?

That Sportmax wheel doesn't show offset, check what it is.

18x7.5 rims with 4x100 bolt pattern by Sportmax tend to be +42mm or +48mm offset. Either could work if tire diameter is stock sized. +48 mm sits a little deeper in the wheel well compared to stock while +42mm offset will sit a little out compared to stock.

225/25-18 doesn't bring up any tires at tirerack.com
I think you meant 225/35-18 which should fit an 18x7.5 rim fine. Tire diameter is 24.2" slightly less than stock but fine.

Now I have to see if those wheels will take a TPMS.
