JIC Magic/CROSS Competition Coilovers

In short... HOLY #@^! . My car isn't aligned properly, and we barely even set up the dampening, but I took it out on the way home for a little spirited jaunt on the freeway, it's night and day. My car goes wherever I point it, regardless of speed, it's a bizarre and absolutely amazing sensation.

Many thanks to Danny Darwichian at MiniCorsa and Jan Brueggemann at Revolution MINI for the recommendation and awesome service (As always ). I called this morning to get a set of these and Jan drove 50 miles to go pick up a set from his shop, then stayed at the shop all day while Danny shuffled cars around to put them on for me on a few hours notice.

More details to come once I get the dampening/ride height dialed in .

Glad to see you like them, Nick

I put them on my GP and the difference is amazing!!!!!
I found no need for sway bars or strut braces.... just point and go!!!!

I really like the camber plate setup that comes with them. Another guy in the club will be putting them on next week before we hit the track. I can't wait to hear his thoughts on them as well.

I'm very interested to hear your thoughts. Did you use the rear cable adjusters? Any pics of them would be great.

I'm saving my money for them as soon as I sell my FSD's and M7 springs. I had most of the money saved up, but my belt tensioner broke for the 6th time and is being repaired tomorrow at MiniCorsa. That alone with the tow truck will be like $700...ouch! I guess it is going to take me a little longer to get the Cross Coilovers.
Nick how do they ride on the LA roads and what setting out of 15 do you have them set at? I know they kick A$$ on the corners.

Danny and Jan's jaw's both dropped in unision when I told them that I actually thought the ride was more comfortable (Not softer, they're noticiably stiffer, just not as bouncy and rickity sounding) than my H-Sports.

I have the fronts set to 7 and the rears set to 8 right now. I'm going back tomorrow to drop the car another .5 inches and i'm probably going to crank it up to 9 front and 10 rear while it's on the lift.

I was at the shop today when you called, Jan and I were both like "Uh oh...". Sucks on the tensioner. Keep in touch with Jan, he expressed interest (even more so after your call) in developing an aftermarket "Race" Tensioner. I'll let him fill in the details.

I think there are a few other companies that have sold tensioner stops to save your crank pulley if the belt breaks or something.

Are you going to be at the track even next weekend? Streets of Willow.

What a cottonpickin second here Mario..... You broke another pulley and belt. Is this the one that we JUST picked up from Moss? and then got pulled over for your 3mph reckless driving incident????

Not again... What happened? Maybe its a good thing I didnt motor with you in SB that day... I probably would of been pushing your car all day!

This is the first time I have been on NAM in about 3 months so I am a little out of the loop.

Call me. Jasun

Woah Jan, I didn't know you sold JIC coilovers; that's awesome! Congrats on getting a great set of coilovers rusty! Did you get the standard 7kg/mm front and 4kg/mm rear spring rates? How did you finally set the ride height?

Ryan,
Actually Cross/Jic called up and was looking for dealers, I went over to their shop which is about 25mi away and test drove in their R56 that was slammed to the ground. I thought this will be fun hearing it slam the bump stops

Well, John took us out in the car and hit everything possible and the car was perfect. I said take me back to the shop and get me a set for my GP!!!!
Here is a video of them setting the Time Attack record at Button Willow
http://www.jic-magic.com/ViewNews.aspx?ID=142&Cat=RD

the front springs are 400lbs and rears are 337 lbs. This is the "standard" spring rates that come with these dampners. You can get custom spring rates if you like but like I have said before they seem to have gotten it right as I feel no need for a swaybar or strut tower brace.

Yes the Alta crank pulley is junk now, I'm on my way up to SB right now to grab another one from Moss before I take it to Mini Corsa. I bought the Detriot lock, so if the belt does break again the pulley and tensior wont blow up. This is getting very old and it is taking away from my Cross Coilover money.
BTW you flaked last Saturday!!!!
Mario

How ya make out with your belt / pulley install did they see any issues that might explain why your breaking so many belts?

Nice talking to you yesterday and let me know when you get the cross setup installed.

I have the CROSS coilovers and the Powergrid endlinks, and they play together great. The camber plates are integrated with the top of the coilover, though, so I don't think you'll be able to use your RDR plates.

And a question for the dealers - Are the CROSS components available separately? I'm interested in a second set of rears, *without* the springs.

The belt is back on the car and things are good again, I added the detroit belt stopper so it the belt does break again, at least it will only cost me $25 not $800. Mini Corsa did a good job and check out all the pulleys and ginded down any burs.
The Cross Coilovers art next. My checking account is very tiny.
