Rear Defrost

Proud owner of a Mini Next '06 MCSCa PW/B. Has anyone been less than satisfied with the rear defrost function? Turned it on this morning (it was raining) and it did nothing for the window. I pretty much drove to work 60miles without being able to see through the rear. Is there a plug or something that may have come apart? The rear window is tinted, but that has never been a problem in any of my previous vehicles.

Any help would be appreciated, as I look to the forums first before contacting the dealer.

Thanks.

I had the same complaint a year ago when I brought Monty in for 1-yr service. They tested it and said it was "operating within normal limits". After that, however it worked just fine.

My guess is that they reseated the connector at the window (or something) that solved the problem.

Mine has a problem with a couple sections of the 'grid' not working. I've also noticed that radio reception is weak whenever the rear defroster is on. Does yours affect radio reception too?

I'm hoping to get my car out of Alaska before the warranty is up so I can have the dealer (closest is in Washington, I think...) take a look at a few minor issues...

I read in another post that the rear defroster is part of the antenna circuit when not in use. So far my rear defroster works great.

There is a special conductive paint you can get at auto stores to repair the broken defroster lines.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I have not noticed a disruption in radio reception. Could be b/c my antenna is on the front of the car. I will add this to my short list of things to be taken care of at my in service.

Rear defrost

Had the same problem with my 05 MCC. Yes, there is a small connector that can come undone. (Or as my SA said, sometimes it doesn't get connected during the pre-delivery set up!) The wire is located in the left rear corner of the top just inside the 'lip' - you should be able to see it when the rear of the top is lifted. If you can't find it, take it to the dealer. They should connect it for no charge. (And that is RARE!! )

Disconnected Rear Defroster Wire

Thanks for the tip about wiring. My convertible has single spade connections on driver and passenger side of the rear window. My passenger side was disconnected. Considering how much wiggling it took to reconnect it, I am surprised it came loose.

It is a real pain to connect, because the spade on the window is soft metal and I was afraid of breaking it while forcing the connector on. I carefully wiggled the plug from side to side to ease the connection.
