MOTD Car Show
MOTD Car Show
Immediatly after MOTD 5 I suggested having a car show and was told that someone was already planning one. So far I have not seen anything else on it.
Is there or is there not someone out there planning something like this??
I would be happy to help if there is but you cannot wait forever to get it rolling.

MOTD6 Car Show
I am interested enough in this to do the organizing of the event if there are enough others who are interested!
So unless someone else speaks up, that is what I will attempt to do.
I need to hear from the following people:
(1) anybody who was already working on something like this
(2) anyone who would like to help with this project
(3) anyone with a suggestion of what they would like to see in such an event.
If any of the main organizers of MOTD6 see this post, please contact me so that I can coordinate with the main effort.
Also I have seen disturbing reports on the internet concerning THP activities on the Dragon and wonder if this could have a negative impact on MOTD.

Ozark, contact Mark Ferguson to see if anyone has approached him about a car show for MOTD.
2nd, the THP can do whatever they want, it isn't going to stop us from having MOTD. It might calm people's Dragon runs down IF they are out in force. It won't take but a day to know they're out there.

If some sort of formal show gets put together I'd be happy to help out with planning in any way possible and am willing to be a judge too (ask Hansie about my OCD).
I agree that with this beign a driving event detailign the cars is going to be a pain but if we adjust the judging to focus on things where cleanliness doesn't matter as much such as best stereo, best roof design, best use of Union Jacks, best underhood...etc. it will give a chance for people to show off their uniqueness but not worry so much about every rock chip and bug splatter during the weekend. The real fun of a car show is standing around the cars talking about them and getting to know the owners. The show's just another excuse to socialize.

MOTD6 Car show
It is not my intention to have a show which requires hours of detailing. The show would serve two purposes (1) Let people get up close to the cars and ask the owners questions about various details on the cars, getting ideas for their MINI (2 ) Having an opportunity to get some recognition for doing a nice job in expessing the ideal MINI personality, what ever that might be.
MOTD is about appreciating what we all have in common, a great car.
It might be possible to get some corporate sponors to make the awards worth keeping.

Like Matt said, Mark F. is the person to contact. We're having a car show at the end of the month for our Mickey and MINI event and quite a few people have signed up for it. I'll be more than happy to share what we learned from ours after it takes place!
No one has stepped forward for this type of event and its something that I've heard many wanting to have in the past. PM me with your thoughts on what you have in mind and we can start to pencil it in. Thanks!

For me, nothing beats a trophy because people say "nice trophy, what did you win it for?" rather than "cool clock where can I get one?" or "you look like a total toolbag in that shirt"
Also, make it a judged show. If it was peoples choice I could go through the registered Mini's in 2 minutes and tell you who's going to win based on their NAM / M|U status.
It would be great if you provided some ideas of how judging and prizes would ideally work. Right now I've only heard what not to do. There is someone stepping up to organize/manage this so I'm sure they would appreciate constructive ideas on how this would be pulled off.

Below is a what is on a Judges form from a show I went to (this club puts on GREAT show btw)
Interior - 20 points
Carpet, Headliner, Seats, Dash, Quality, Fit
Exterior - 20 points
Paint, Overall Quality
Chrome & Trim - 10 points
Quality
UnderCarriage - 10 points
Clean and Detailed
Engine and Drive Train - 15 points
Clean and Detailed
Tires and Wheels - 5 points
Clean and Detailed
Trunk - 5 points
Quality and Fit
I know we don't want to base the judging on cleanliness, but I will say that you can tell from those that take care of their cars, to those that don't have a clue. The above would be a good base line to start if someone wants to start discussing it.
As far as prizes... you can think of some really creative things beyond a T-shirt or a hat. My british car club has a show next month and we're giving away trophies, as well as a European licenseplate for the winner that has the show name and best in whatever class they entered. VW shows do that as well. Giving them out? It could be done right after the show is done at the location, or at the Farewell dinner. But keep in mind alot of people will not be going to the Farewell dinner.
I hope that gets the jucies flowing and I'm open for discussion on how to modify the above to suit the needs.
I would say quality could be change to the route one took as to making their mini different Did they follow a specific route to get a unique look, or is it a mis-mash of chrome, carbon fiber, walnut wood, flames, etc. Pretty much tasteful vs. tacky. The same could go for mods. Did you make your mini a drag race machine, or change all the suspension in the MC to be a purpose built civic killer in autocross? or did you buy everything you could afford just because NAM told you to with no direction at all?

Organization of MOTD6 Car Show
At this point in time I have been in contact with Mark about organizing the car show.
Since no one has formally taken the lead on this and after talking to Mark I have taken the responsibility for the initial organizational effort.
To that end, I am requesting that anyone interested in helping with the car show send me a PM to that effect.
There are a number of individuals that have already expressed interest by posting on this thread and I will send each of them a PM to see if they are still interested.
I am looking forward to a great MOTD6.

Using the list Darkness posted above I suggest making a few changes:
Interior/boot - 20 points total
-10 points for creativity
-10 for execution
Carpet, Headliner, Seats, Dash, Quality, Fit
Exterior - 20 points
-10 points for creativity
-10 for execution
-special section for best roof
Paint, Overall Quality
Chrome & Trim - 10 points
Quality (maybe this one should be a special judging criteria for the person with the most chrome or "bling")
UnderCarriage - 10 points
Clean and Detailed (I'd skip this since we'll probably be outside on less than ideal pavement, the cars will be driven, and nobodies bringing their mirrors and display ramps)
Engine and Drive Train - 15 points
- 5 for creativity/engineering
- 5 for appearance/execution
- 5 for power adders (vs. if they're just dress-up mods)
Clean and Detailed
Tires and Wheels - 5 points
Clean and Detailed
ICE/stereo/audio - 5 points
Quality and Fit (since our boots are just an extension of the interior this would be a better way of giving props to the audiophiles)
The composite score would be the way of determining best of show, with a special sub-prizes for best Cabrio, best R56, best R50, Best R53 etc....depending on how many awards we feel we can hand out.
There could also be a special award for best Roof, one for most chrome, and a few other special prize categorier (Best use of Union Jacks...etc.)
I personally think at the very least if there's a best roof prize there needs to be a sub-prize for best Cabrio based on the composite scoring.

I like the suggestions above and it fills in what we are looking for.
Chrome and trim: This could be changed to Trim and Bling and judge it based on what the trim looks like (wax spots!) or the quality of the paint if you went the extra mile to paint the trim. Also on your bling; carbon fiber accents, chrome accents, wood paneling on the side (i know you're out there!), vinyls, etc.
You could also do another category that would be an overall based on your class; stock (mr. oem!), theme (cows, tigers, hippos), and mods (2 fast 2 furious!). Something to that effect.
Which leads me to my next topics; classes. I remember in the last thread we talked about doing it by color, or separating them by the type of mini, and sub classing from there

It would really help if we had an idea of how many cars would be willing to compete in this event and (for that matter) where the event would vbe held. The number of participants is the key for determining the location (enough space?) and then the number of classes and types (21 vehicles with 20 classes would be a bad thing).
I think it would be keen to keep the inaugural event simple and not getting in over our heads with too many details. I've seen entire events fall apart because the planning committee got too ambitious too soon. I'm sure this event will grow and it may be an unprecedented success right off the bat but if only a handful of people take to the idea the first year, I won't be disappointed.
Also, I think a "confirmed kills" award for the person with the most bug-guts spatter would be a cool prize, maybe give a MINI flyswatter or something as that trophy.

Right, I wasn't thinking of turn out. If the THP keeps up with their antics, the turn out could be huge, otherwise... eh. Really there will be no way to know until we get closer to d-day.
For simplified classes how about MC, MCS, MCconvert, Old, with some speciality awards like bug kills, Loudest stereo, Best sounding exhaust, and "most likely to get stopped on the dragon 5 minutes after the show"
Exhaust and stereo shootouts might add some entertainment. If it's something fun to do and fun to watch, it would help get people out there. I hate car shows that have nothing going on while the Judges do their thing.

It would be wise to cap the number of entries for this year and then announce what date registration will open. First people that register make it, the rest, better luck next year.
For this year it could be in the Village but if the car show were to grow large it would have to be moved elsewhere.
Always can always use more mod money. I hope to have more information regarding the tent in the next couple of weeks.

MOTD6 organization of car show - repeat post
This is a second call concerning the organization of a car show at MOTD6.
A committee is being formed to plan a car show at MOTD6. I am currently acting as coordinator for this event. If anyone wants to be part of the planning committee please PM me within the next 7 days. Some preliminary ideas have been reviewed by the MOTD6 organizers including location, classification, day of event and prizes.
The most pressing decision seems to be where to have it. The ball field will probably be occupied by a large tent. A location mentioned and tentatively approved would be the upper parking lot by the adventure center. The target for the number of participants is 100. Nothing is fixed at this point, only suggestions.
I would like to get this event outlined by the committee by the end of October at the latest so that it can be coordinated with the other events at MOTD6. I also want to make this event a pleasant memory for everyone who goes to MOTD6
The committee will probably be fairly small but everyone will be asked for their ideas and suggestions
