MOTD Car Show
Can you fit 100 cars in the upper lot and still leave enough room to walk around and admire the vehicles?
Just to be sure I'm thinking of the correct place this is the same area that hosted the vendors in 07?

Car Show Location
Well MOTC5 was my first so I don't know about previous uses for that lot but it is the one right at the adventure center. The BrewSwapGuy likes it because it would lead right in to his event Friday evening. Also I don't know if it will hold 100 cars or not. I think it would if we had 3 rows. originally I had thought of having the show spread over three days but that has several problems. it is going to take careful planning to pull this off. By the way, do you think 100 is realistic? Suggestions are welcome.
I'm going to guess 50 to 75 cars first time out.
I could be crazy but I'm not sure you'll get that many enter this first year.
How much that lot can hold will depend on how the cars are lined up. There are approximately 50-60 actual parking spaces in the lot. If you were to line up cars in rows instead of spots, running the length of the lot, I think you can get 50. I don't think there's a way to fit 75 and still have plenty of room to show off and mingle.
My advice is to put some serious limits on the number of entries this year. You don't have to swing for the fences on the first try. It makes sense for it to get larger each year just as MOTD has.
Cap it at no more than 50. If that fills up easily then next year you know to plan for more and find a larger location.

You only think I am? I must be getting soft in my old age.
50 seems like a pretty realistic numer and a good place to set an entry cap.
As far as entering ones own car and volunteering to help at the show, the only place I'd see a conflict of interest is if someone were to volunteer to judge and have a car entered.

if you limit it to 50 cars:
What classes will you have?
Mod and Stock?
R50? r53? r56? Classic? Convertible?
How many cars in each class?
How will the cars be parked?
What are considered Mods?
Aero Kit? is that stock or Mod?
Are factory wheels in plus sizes considered a mod?
Will there be trophies?
Who pays for said Trophies?
These are just some of the things that need to be sonsidered before you can set anything up.
Woulld my r50 bumpered, spoliered, side grilled, Mini cooper S be stock or Mod?
Yes or no?
It has all Factory mini parts in it.

I am interested enough in this to do the organizing of the event if there are enough others who are interested!
So unless someone else speaks up, that is what I will attempt to do.
I need to hear from the following people:
(1) anybody who was already working on something like this
(2) anyone who would like to help with this project
(3) anyone with a suggestion of what they would like to see in such an event.
If any of the main organizers of MOTD6 see this post, please contact me so that I can coordinate with the main effort.
Also I have seen disturbing reports on the internet concerning THP activities on the Dragon and wonder if this could have a negative impact on MOTD.

As for your other questions, they're still all in limbo so we'll see.
Update on car show organization
This post is to update interested parties on planning to date.
The first order of business is the planning committee which should be complete by September 30th. Only a limited number of people have expressed interest at this point and I will be getting in touch with each of them this week-end.
As you can see from the thread there are plenty of questions and few answers at this time. The overriding principle will be the KISS principle, at least for the first year.
After the committe has established some basic guidelines, they will be posted to this thread for general comments and suggestions. I know that in the end not everyone will be satisfied with everything but the committee will do the best it can to make this event as painless as possible.
In regard to awards, yes there will be awards but they probably will not be your run of the mill cheap trophy but something that you would be proud to show to a non car type person. I am going to try and get some business sponsors to pay for this, wish me luck.

How many cars in each class? Really depends on the turn out. I think it would be a good idea to limit each class by how many can enter (say 10-15) rather than 50 total in the entire show
What are considered Mods? In my book, anything not factory that enhances the performance of the car I.e. brakes, suspension, engine. However, many mini folks consider their mini eyes, valve stem caps, and tint to be mods
Aero Kit? is that stock or Mod? Available from the factory. Stock. Orcariri (how ever it's spelled). new class: 2 fast 2 furious.
Are factory wheels in plus sizes considered a mod? No. No wheels should be considered a Mod.
Who pays for said Trophies? Hopefully someone generous
Your car based on what you've told me, stock.

Just be careful. if you have a lot of classes you could eclipse 50 fast. And trust me, 50's a good starting point for Year One.
I'm not saying 50 is not a good starting point. The only reason I say limit the # in a class is because you may end up with 35 in a MCS class, 6 in a MC class, 2 in a Convert class, 6 in a 2nd gen mini and 1 in a Old mini class if you had a 50 limit becuase there was a onslaught of MCS drivers signing up from the get go. Where as if you limit the class by 10, you can fill all the classes evenly. At this time I don't think we're going for more than 5 classes, which would put us right at 50. It ensures the variety of the show, and makes sure you've got someone to give out that trophy/whatever rather than having it hanging around afterwards.
Just throwing it out there and hope it makes sense.

But also, some cars will fit in multiple classes, will we only allow competition in one class per entry or will we aloow multiple classes which would allow fewer total cars but more classes.
I have a feeling that the classes will probably be amongst the last thing we sort out, after we get the logistics of location/capacity, the source of the awards/trophies, and the appproximate number of potential competitiors and type.

Thanks to all of the organizers for doing this!
Planning an event like this takes some serious time and energy. It also drastically improves the experience for you to get involved... even on your first trip to the Dragon.
I'm looking forward to it! I wanna enter, but I don't know how well the finish will be after the 800+ mile trip to Fontana.

Jango looked good at MOTD 2005...except for that whole getting stuck in the mud business.
Aaron, you'll have the whole detail kit with you and you'll spend the time to make it perfect.
I'm going to hire Octane Guy to clean mine up then hermetically seal it in a really large mayonnaise jar at noon on the front porch of the cabin. The cabin will be know as the Funk and Wagnall's cabin. Ed McMahon has been invited.
